it's one thing that it doesn't look like an 80s/90s OVA. You kind of get spoiled by those. Doesn't help I watched Gunbuster between ZZ and Victory. But you also get spoiled by something having 6/12 episodes to establish and resolve a plot instead of this meandering, week-by-week ... stuff

But nature outside of human judgements is not even morally neutral, it actually is just not. We're the ones with a planetary or even all-encompassing concept of it. "Nature" can not be "better off" "without us" because it is a concept that we have created to distinguish ourselves from.

Beauty, aesthetic appreciation is the lens through which people wealthy enough to care about ecological conservation *perform* ecological conservation. They do not necessarily make cost/benefit analyses or care for specific species, regions and ecosystems that they don't believe are pretty.

Nature is not inherently beautiful, that we think of it as such is, on any timescale imaginable, a very recent development, likely to have been enabled by rapidly escalating material wealth. Absent that wealth, the default view of nature is of it being a threat and/or a resource.

in truth, I know it cannot be totally tautological. An "expectation" (of truthiness or at least emotional resonance) was created, my problem is that if I try to think about where it came from, it quickly gets very paradoxical
