After dominant pro-jndy result in Scotland & ascendancy of Plaid Cumru in Wales, plus rumbling unification in Ireland/NI, I expect unionists to start trundling out the old 'federalism' red herring again. It can't work because England won't accept losing power over the rest of the 'equal partners'.

Federalism. An idea sometimes presented as a "credible" alternative to Scottish independence and a way of granting Scotland greater autonomy over its own affairs whilst maintaining the unity of the United Kingdom. Unfortunately, it's also an idea that is rarely presented in much detail and for it to be a viable alternative to independence, advocates must provide detailed answers to the following key questions..
1) Which model of Federalism do you advocate - Enhanced Devolution (Devo-Max), Four Nation Federation (a single Federal parliament, and each of four home-nations with its own parliament), or Three Nation plus English Regional Parliaments Federation (in which England would itself be federalised and resulting regional-states would be given equal power and status as parliaments in Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland)?
2) How much power would each state have & would it be asymmetrical to reflect current devolution settlements?
3) How much power over the Federal Government would each state have?
4) If you support the Enhanced Devolution option (Devo-Max) what additional powers do you see being devolved?
5) If you support Four Nation Federation, what safeguards would be implemented against the built-in 'supermajority' of England?
6) If a state decided to secede from the federation, what mechanisms would be placed to assist or impede this?
7) How would the proposed Federal settlement be implemented? The current system of UK government suits England well, but not the other nations. What plans do you have to achieve full public and political support across all UK
