Going to #NoKings today.
Definitely bringing some American flags to wave at #NoKings today.

You know how some realtors do that wasteful “promo” of sticking polyester/plastic American flags
(with their biz card attached)
in lawns around July 4 ?

This year, a few days after July 4 when the remaining flags were getting tattered & bound for trash heap, I walked through the neighborhood and collected all of the flags still out on lawns.

I saved them for future Anti-Trump protests.

The especially sweet part of this is that the neighborhood realtor who did this promotion, is total MAGA. So now the flags that she paid for will be used at
Anti-Trump protest!

(American Flag and Blue Heart emojis banner, alternating flags and hearts)

Great, handy that this happened at same time as our NZ Perm Residency paperwork. World just keeps getting better and better (sarcastic). American and returning to USA for immediate future. We will fight to undo the damage and, then begin (again) to try to improve it. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/w...

PSA: Are you age 50 or older? In late 2024, CDC came out with new recommendation that adults as young as age 50 get the pneumococcal vaccine (it used to be recommended for age 65+). This is NOT an annual vaccine. Get it once! Of course, check with your doctor, etc. www.nytimes.com/2024/10/25/w...

I forgot I ordered this from #TheNation before the election. It arrived today to rub salt in the wounds. 😢 At least it is only 500 pieces. Ugh. But hey, I know we can come back from this. Let me just bury myself in a painful jigsaw puzzle for a minute.
500 piece colorful jigsaw puzzle by The Nation showing vertical colorful stripes with the words VOTE! on top of the stripes. The "O" in "VOTE!" is the gender symbol for female, which is a circle above a cross (♀). The credit and title on lower left half reads "Women Will Decide (VOTE!)" by Kat Gooch-Breault and lower right is the logo for "The Nation" magazine. Close up of the credit/title of the colorful jigsaw puzzle. The credit and title on lower left half of the puzzle box reads "Women Will Decide (VOTE!)" by Kat Gooch-Breaul.

This is an important thing to remember. The harm won’t be evenly distributed. Mostly things will go on as usual, unless (and until) you’re a target. We can see this here in Aotearoa. The govt is diligently stripping rights and protections from Māori, from the disabled, from beneficiaries.

One piece of early Twitter etiquette that would be a good addition to the culture here is the use of “h/t” acknowledgements. H/t means “hat tip” and is a way of giving credit to the account where you first saw the content you’re promoting. It’s a great network building tool and feels good as well.

It’s really pretty cool that one thing you can do to support people you like is ask your local library to get their book because it doesn’t cost you anything, it helps them, and the librarian gets to know someone actually wants to read a book and not just use the computer for Roblox

Such a good piece. Read it. Make time to sit with it. And then keep planning.
So let's do things that fascists can't do. Let's not do things fascists want us to do. And let's refuse the fascist offer.

Let's seek people whose lives are hard, and learn from them how to make it easier for them, and then do what we can to ease their hardship.

When you encounter people who have made their lives comfortable by making it hard for others, learn what makes them comfortable, and make it uncomfortable for them.

And let us hope, with a clear awareness of how grim things truly are, with a conviction that a better world is possible, and a determination to fight for it against those who wish to kill it.

There are dark times ahead.

But hope is a thing that fights in the dark.

This is a photograph of my great uncle, Jim Ida, in 1942. The photograph was taken by Dorothea Lange as part of her documentation of the Japanese American incarceration. He is sitting with his family’s bags, waiting to be taken to an internment camp. (Tanforan, I believe.) He was 17.
A black and white photograph of a Japanese American teenage boy. He is sitting on a large duffel bag tied with string, on the sidewalk next to some suitcases. He is looking out of frame over his left shoulder, his hands folded in his lap and with one foot cocked on its edges. His body language looks anxious to me.

Why did I just realize that all 4 of my grandparents were born in the 1800's? My kids say in reply, "You're soo old Mom." Well, I'm not that old. One set lived till ages 99 and 101, although that's pretty irrelevant. And my mom got married and had kids later than the norm for her demo at the time.
