It's not shocking at all. We are all the same species. All weird and cruel and incredible in our ways, and none of that disqualifies us from being humans. People are so desperate to be told what to do, told what things MEAN - rather than pursuing an understanding for themselves. So we end up here.

Deification and monsterization are two sides of the same coin: dehumanization. By removing humanity from the public perception of these people you absolve them of their crimes. People are so shocked to learn that Hitler loved animals or that many famous artists were/are pedos/rapists.

This is the exact thing that annoys me with all the Netflix Murder stuff, people deifying the murderers into these almost mythological "beings." Like... no? A lot of them were actually sad sacks of shit who were abused as kids and repeated that abuse as adults. Many victims of a cruel system.

One thing that's always struck me about seeing people I admire in the real world is how they're... just people. It's so easy to build them up from a distance and glorify them. But that's just a human, like you. Someone capable of good and bad, someone with secrets and things they'd rather not say.

It happens when you're a teenager. You like a youtuber and which them religiously and then turns out they are a bigot (privately or not) and you feel betrayed because you liked them and you learn they would have hated you. And therein lies the lesson - not to deify anyone. You're both just people.

Whenever someone in the public eye "betrays" you, it's an opportunity to reevaluate how much importance you're giving them in your own life. Reconsider the influence you're happy to give them over you. Replace it with the lessons you learn and practice taking a step back as often as you can.

Social evils are supposed to be met with cold consequences. It's not about personal vendettas or ideology at the end of the day. It's about the understanding that evil actions and attitudes should not be tolerated, much less forgiven, in a world of good people who just want to live.

Here’s the most incredible story you’ll read today. A small plane with four people aboard crashes in a field. Another pilot witnesses it. That pilot happens to be flying a bunch of skydivers. They offer to jump to assist, are given permission. The skydivers happen to be EMTs. Everyone survives.
