There's a giant hexagonal storm at the north pole of Saturn. It's 29,000 km across. So here's Earth for scale.
The hexagonal storm is in the centre of the image; a superposed image of Earth, approximately to scale, is at the upper right. Earth's notional shadow (to scale) is at upper left.

Today in 1985, Trump bought Mar-a-Lago from the Post Foundation, ran by the former owner's daughters. He told them & the media that he owned land next to it and would ruin the property's value by building a hideous house if they didn't sell. He was lying.

The Eastern Veil Nebula - with and without stars! 150 minutes of 30 second exposures captured overnight as part of a clear night double header (next post to come) #astronomy #astrophotography @stormhour.com @photohour.bsky.social
NGC 6992, also known as the Eastern Veil Nebula, is a cloud of heated and ionized gas and dust located in the constellation Cygnus. It is part of the larger Cygnus Loop supernova remnant, a vast structure formed from the explosion of a massive star approximately 10,000 to 20,000 years ago. The Eastern Veil itself is a section of this remnant, and it is often photographed alongside NGC 6995 (the Bat Nebula) and Pickering's Triangle.

In this image I removed the stars to show the complex elements of the nebula.

This image of the Nebula was captured via the DWARF 3 smart scope. 300 x 30 second exposures at gain 60. Processing via Snapseed.

The Bubble Nebula, also known as NGC 7635, is a sphere of active star formation glowing faintly in the constellation Cassiopeia. The hydrogen gas cloud from which the stars form emits red light, the characteristic colour of hydrogen, by absorbing energy from them. This image was captured via 240 x 30 second exposures.

Finally joined the Smart Scope Users Club! Andromeda (M31) is the closest major galaxy to our Milky Way about 2.5 million light-years away from Earth. I've never seen let alone imaged it before. My Dwarf 3 experience report in ALT. #astronomy #astrophotography @stormhour.com @photohour.bsky.social
First time user's report!

My very first test attempt using the Dwarf 3 that arrived on Thursday. I'm sure it's a familiar and common target for fellow users so I barely need to tell you it is M31 (the Andromeda galaxy). One hour of 60x15sec exposures in South London Bortle 8 from 1am to 2am whilst I slept. I've never seen (through binoculars or naked eye) let alone imaged this 'object'.

Quick tidying up using Snapseed and the app facilities.

What a ridiculously simple process. I've previously regarded smart scopes akin to cooking a preprepared supermarket meal by microwave and this experience does confirm my feel. The technology is incredible and of course I will now be looking through the menu for other targets.

I do worry that the simplicity will spoil the fun and achievement of seeking out and capturing night sky wonders that need some effort.

What I cannot deny is that the Dwarf 3 is a fantastic piece of kit for the price and I'm very pleased to have joined the club.

"The ruddy turnstone in this image feels like a little explorer caught mid-step on a solitary shoreline stroll. Its bright orange legs contrast boldly against the muted tan of the sand, and the bird’s compact frame leans slightly forward, as if propelled by curiosity. Splashes of black and white adorn its face and chest, arranged in an almost heraldic pattern, while rich chestnut and umber tones streak across its wings and back like brushstrokes on a well-loved canvas. The ocean looms softly behind in a wash of pale blues and greys, blurred to a painterly haze that gives the whole scene a gentle, meditative quality—like a memory more than a moment. The bird seems both at home and apart: a solitary figure mapping the edge between land and sea." - Copilot

concerned about the state of the world because of two powerful men fighting? doomscrolling again? stop. breathe. enjoy the universe for a brief moment
Centaurus A. A glowing orange region shines at the upper left corner, with dark brown and black dust cascading diagonally down to the lower right. Distant stars dot the hazy background of space. Bright pink regions of star formation are interspersed throughout the dust.Angled from the upper left corner to the lower right corner is a cone-shaped orange-red cloud known as Herbig-Haro 49/50. This feature takes up about three-fourths of the length of this angle. The upper left end of this feature has a translucent, rounded end. The conical feature widens slightly from the rounded end at the upper right down to the lower right. Along the cone there are additional rounded edges, like edges of a wave, and intricate foamy-like details, as well as a clearer view of the black background of space. In the upper left, overlapping with the rounded end of Herbig-Haro 49/50, is a background spiral galaxy with a concentrated blue center that fades outward to blend with red spiral arms. The background of space is speckled with some white stars and smaller, more numerous, fainter white galaxies throughout.A massive spiral galaxy fills the image, with its bright yellow core seen near the upper left. Spiral arms whirl outward, laced through with dark brown dust and bright blue patches of star formation. The image is divided horizontally by an undulating line between a cloudscape forming a nebula along the bottom portion and a comparatively clear upper portion. Speckled across both portions is a starfield, showing innumerable stars of many sizes. The smallest of these are small, distant, and faint points of light. The largest of these appear larger, closer, brighter, and more fully resolved with 8-point diffraction spikes. The upper portion of the image is blueish, and has wispy translucent cloud-like streaks rising from the nebula below. The orangish cloudy formation in the bottom half varies in density and ranges from translucent to opaque. The stars vary in color, the majority of which, have a blue or orange hue. The cloud-like structure of the nebula contains ridges, peaks, and valleys – an appearance very similar to a mountain range. Three long diffraction spikes from the top right edge of the image suggest the presence of a large star just out of view.
