Update: processing is going poorly. I think my focusing was poor because I keep getting an artifact when I try to process the image. That or maybe I just need to redo some things

Made myself learn FireCapture (before I was using the ASI planetary software a couple years ago) to retry planetary imaging. I’ll work on processing tomorrow most likely.

A discarded SpaceX rocket will crash into the moon this coming Wednesday, early in the morning (2:30~ ET). The actual rocket won’t be visible from earth but the large plume of debris will. The crash should be visible near the Einstein crater (circled below). #space #astronomy

I photographed the Butterfly nebula (IC 1318) over the past 3 nights from my backyard! I had a lot of fun with this one, both in capturing and processing. Nerd details in the alt text. #astrophotography #photography #astronomy #space

The butterfly nebula, shot with a Ultracat 108 telescope on a 2600 MM camera, using SHO astronomik filters. 5 minutes exposures were used for each channel, using 15 hours of data over 3 nights. Data was stacked in Astro pixel processor and processed in Pixinsight

I photographed M5 last month from my driveway. In the uncropped version, you can see an object in the the bottom left that did not follow tracking. I'm not sure what it was, but most likely an asteroid of some kind. If anyone knows feel free to chime in. #astronomy #astrophotography #photography

Messier 5, photographed with a 2600 mm pro and a ultracat 108 telescope, using stacked 60 second exposures.

The bottom left quadrant a streak of light followed by a pattern of r, g, b suggest a moving object that is not a star, such as a planet or asteroid that was captured in filter order.

I was thinking about #astronomy outreach recently. I know y’all love your smart scopes for outreach, but I’ve found they’ve been decidedly unpopular at events I’ve attended. Most people are disappointed they can’t look at the object directly and equate it with looking up a photo on their phone. 1/2

Not that I really stream much anymore, but my PC died a few days ago. Might be an issue with the cooler or the power supply but I’m not sure. I did some troubleshooting and thought I had it fixed, but apparently not because the next day it died again. It’s at the the repair shop now.

It was a wonderful night for observing; even with the local light pollution I was able to see some globular clusters (m5 and m13) and a couple of the galaxies in the Leo triplet!

Turns out I can get a decent few of the southern side of the sky, but not for long with all the trees around. I split my project time as a result. I hope to have one finished over the next couple days.

I spent six hours photographing the Triangulum Galaxy from a local parking lot. I wish light pollution wasn't so terrible here. #astrophotography #astronomy #photography #space
