The mayor is only one vote on council. The councillors we select are crucial to getting anything done.

They're spending $20 million to tear it up and it would have cost $60 million tops to fix it. Really depressing.

Something's gotta change. In BC, we have a situation where the Greens are polling at 15% and they could end up with just 2 seats. Mixed Member Prop Rep - keep your MP but vote for Party as well, add List MP Seats, minimum threshold of 10% province/nationwide. #cdnpoli

So egregiously backwards & short-sighted. Every person in this province subsidizes cars. Your municipal taxes pay for parking & roads whether you have a car or not. Your provincial taxes pay the health care costs from car-related pollution & crashes. Your federal taxes subsidize O&G companies.
Statement from David Eby

Metro Vancouver mayors have told us they need a sustainable funding path for Translink and there have been a number of options discussed as part of that work. We will come to a solution to support Translink, but the path to sustainable funding for that organization cannot be on the backs of drivers who are already struggling with the prices at the pump. A vehicle levy or road pricing are not options we would proceed with. That's the last thing people need at a time when Trump is driving up costs. The real cost to drivers would be the Conservative parties’ plans to double car insurance rates and make drivers pay more. People can't afford that.

That seems like such a key point here: someone in power understood the urgency Governments have so utterly failed to respond to this crisis. People like Nyx and Kalicum stepped in and this court ruling acknowledges both their efforts and the abdication of government

We need to ban foreign ownership of BC farmland immediately. The super-billionaire heir to the Walmart fortune, Stan Kroenke, now controls over 13% of BC’s farmland - this is a threat to BC’s sovereignty, food security and farmers. Read the Tyee’s in-depth coverage on this issue.
A Tiny BC Farming Town's Fight Against Billionaire Speculators
A US company's pursuit of land near Dunster has reignited calls for stiffer foreign ownership rules. The purchase of dozens of farm properties by two U.S. billionaires has prompted a small B.C. community to call for restrictions on foreign ownership of agricultural land.
Since 2008, a company co-owned by American billionaires Bobby Patton Jr. and Mark Walter has bought 25 properties in Dunster, an unincorporated community of approximately 240 people located 40 minutes north of Valemount.Patton Jr. and Walter are co-owners of the Los Angeles Dodgers through their company
Guggenheim Baseball Management, and were estimated to have a combined net worth of more than $5 billion in 2020. By contrast, the average household income for those living in the Dunster area is about $60,000 per year.Unlike many other provinces, British Columbia has no restrictions on foreign ownership of agricultural land.

This idea that private capital runs everything in the most efficient way is so deeply ingrained in people but it's demonstrably false. The function of private capital is to extract profit, and they're not particularly good at that in a lot of cases.

What a meaningless question. More efficiently than what? Than a non-profit with experience operating infrastructure? Than an investor with no experience operating infrastructure? Than a random person plucked off the street? It's a question that's so incomplete as to mean nothing.

It's worth thinking about why the non-profits that currently run Canadian airports can't "unlock value" - it's not because they're incompetent, it's almost always because they don't do union busting

There's also a ridership study as part of this work. Nothing like this has been done before and it's different than the 2018 high-level costing study for the entire E&N line. So while the Feds didn't announce funding the revival of the line, this is a *major* vote of confidence for the project.
