"Let's go throw a GPU in a server" she said, "It'll be quick she said". Now the air compressor is out, weird DIMM errors are popping up and @rosepaladin.bsky.social snuck an extra NIC in the replacement server. Two hours later, the GPU is finally installed.

I taught a couple of cybersecurity merit badges to my daughter’s Girl Scouts troop and the parents were amazed that I made it so easy to understand for a bunch of 8 year olds I pointed out that I had years of practice explaining the Internet to senior military officers, so this was a breeze

Hey folks, I’m preparing to update my risk assessment map and I am including a new factor: hospitals complying with anti-trans EOs and whether AGs are putting pressure to stop that. If your hospital system is complying with anti-trans EOs and hasn’t reversed course, let me know here or in DM.

Simply add another project. You will not regret another project. In seriousness, now more than ever, control over our data and how it gets used is important. The on-ramp to being able to manage your own information is simpler than you'd expect and can even be fun.

Every so often I get the urge to lab something absolutely impractical and it usually ends years later with learning a new field. Or in a month with a bit less sanity. Anyway, my ebay history is filled with GPON gear. This can only end well.

If you know any military leaders — from junior NCOs to 4-star generals — probably a good time to reinforce the idea with them that their oath is to the Constitution, not the President, and certainly not the Secretary of Defense.

Three easy questions to figure out a cybersecurity person's actual competency on big issues: - Can a hacker take down the US power grid? - Is AI going to replace security analysts? - What operating system should business computers be running? I promise, you'll get 'em.

i think that the quality of discourse in the software industry would be a lot better off if programmers were a bit more willing to admit that sometimes we just do stuff because we *like* it, instead of because it's objectively good or bad.

Guess who did report it. Constantly. Outlets focused on trans people and sex workers. @brynntannehill.bsky.social sounded the alarm in Aug ‘23. Queer and adult pubs and podcasts covered it incessantly, mapped the connections, only to be discounted. Listen to us next time. Listen to us now.

On day one Trump's EO said we were harmful to kids. On day two, it said we were dishonorable and disloyal. On day three, it said we were unAmerican. Transgender people have been a part of this country for centuries. We are not going anywhere. Do not comply with these EOs, they are not law.

"Learning to delete/mute/block before a negative comment takes root in your mind is a modern survival skill. If you're going to wander the overgrown countryside of the internet, you need to develop a quick eye for ticks.

It's deeply tempting to respond to the "well, actually," to the cruel assumption, to the unjust accusation, to the odious viewpoint. It's tempting because you're defaulting to the etiquette of dinner conversation. This isn't a dinner conversation. Someone is shouting at you from a moving car. Turn away."

1. It was never about sports. Some have argued that Democrats should give up on trans people in sports. As a leading transgender journalist covering the issue for years, I can say that this is a strategy doomed to fail. Here's why. Subscribe to support my journalism.
