took me longer than I'm willing to admit to find the door to the coaster. I thought I'd checked it when it showed me the sign next to it. checked every other door in the area like 6 times 😅

maybe it was just because everyone already kinda knows the deal with silent hill, but damn they really just drop you into it huh. I've only been playing for minutes and I'm already getting stunlocked by multiple enemies in one room. they did not opt for a slowly building sense of dread

gonna fuck around and maybe play through silent hill 3 for the first time. from the bits that I've seen it's a very different vibe than 2, but from what I can tell, 3 and 4 are considered pretty great by fans of the series, they're just often overshadowed by how good 2 is.

The extra U's are good but some of our double vowels suck. Oestrogen? Paediatrician? 🤢

people are still making incredible art that I feel very lucky to get to see. despite it all

Not in the position to buy any of your work unfortunately but I really dig the way you use the black marker to frame your full art and how it pops against the OG borders, for retro and modern borders alike. It looks sick

Looks like it's going pretty well to me

Still can't believe how not about opshopping that movie is

The term "race" is intrinsically tied to the history of "science" done to prove that different ethnic groups are fundamentally different and placing them in heirarchy. Using the term to describe goblins and humans and elves, who by heritage or magic *are* very different, leans into that history

This would have changed 11 year old me's life tbh

It's gotta be so disheartening. But I'm absolutely certain that the care and effort put into writing these systems will not go unnoticed. The quirks and behaviours of systems designed with intent by humans will always be infinitely more compelling and charming than something mined from big data.

Darth Marenghi @sixpies.bsky.social · 22/07/2026

This is the primary appeal to me. When everyone you're matching with has full kits and a solid understanding of the layout and tactics of the map it feels pretty disheartening repeatedly donating your ante to them.

Darth Marenghi @sixpies.bsky.social · 22/07/2026

I often think about how cruel it would have been to be developing a procedurally generated text based game long before the proliferation of LLMs and having to market how fucking cool your system is when these slop machines can sound like they do the same thing if you're not reading closely

Darth Marenghi @sixpies.bsky.social · 02/07/2026

I hope this doesn't come across as condescending or 'splainy, I was just sharing my personal experience of how utterly painless and "out of box" the experience was, as someone who is no stranger to configuring emulators and also to deciding it's not worth the hassle sometimes

010

Darth Marenghi @sixpies.bsky.social · 02/07/2026

Just so you're aware, emudeck runs a wizard that essentially sets up every emulator the average person could possibly want and configures them all to work optimally with steam deck including mapping controls and importing the roms you install into steam. It's not prepackaged but it may as well be.

I'm benefitting from being able to lend my games to friends and family also

There should be a Mr Bean sketch that is like that movie Men where Mr Bean gives birth to another Mr Bean as Jessie Buckley screams

That silhouette is unbelievable. Great character design

Grid drafted legacy cube with my boys tonight. Miraculously beat them both with the sultai midrange pile. Feeling very lucky to get to play cool games with my friends

Blue black green cube draft deck with a seriously worrying amount of double pipped spells and only a single dual (fetches notwithstanding)

There being no green in the art at all made me *certain* for a second that one of those colours had to be wrong

Darth Marenghi @sixpies.bsky.social · 14/05/2026

This is definitely the way to go in the beginning of the game. The opening stretch has so few checkpoints that it's just brutal getting all the way up to the bridge wolves and then eating it over and over again. I swear it's the hardest non boss area in the game. Go open up them shortcuts 😅

Signalis is unique in that it feels like it's staring you directly in the eye as it steals way more than you ever thought you'd find respectable and it's still a masterpiece

Darth Marenghi @sixpies.bsky.social · 08/04/2026

That's not too long winded at all! Thanks so much for the explanation. I had assumed this to be the case but I'm so divorced from the contextual knowledge of working with these earlier systems that I couldn't trust I wasn't missing something

Have you read Annihilation? This matches frighteningly to how I imagined the crawler in the tower

it’s incredibly blackpilling to me that it takes rising gas prices and rising gas prices alone to have people turn against the war in iran, and not the american government murdering thousands of children and civilians in iran. americans are incredibly selfish
