Heathland: A Sherwood Treasure in Nottinghamshire
(February 19, 2026) Rigg Lane Heath Heathlands are among the UK’s most distinctive and threatened habitats – wild, open landscapes defined by poor, sandy, acidic soils and carpets of heather. Once widespread across the Sherwood Sandstones, these habitats are now fragmented, but their cultural and ecological importance remains immense. Nottinghamshire is a great place for heathland, and nowhere is this more evident than in the historic landscape of Sherwood Forest.

The Midlands could benefit from a massive £1,386mn increase in GDP if the UK joins the EU. In perspective it could build: 2 new Midlands community hospitals 4 new primary schools 4 new secondary schools 2,000 care home places 200 new GP surgeries …every year and still have millions in change.

The largest of the true hibernators, marmots bulk up all summer to survive the winter. Fat Marmot Week is an opportunity to get folks excited about yellow-bellied marmots, one of our favorite alpine residents, and to share the science behind their weight gain.

The UK can’t be forced to join the Euro on joining the EU - no other country has and there’s no clock, penalty, or lever. It’s not a thing. Don’t confuse a pure political ritual with an enforceable contract. Joining the Euro is entirely voluntary… *IF* you even qualify.
