During the assisted dying debate, Ministers made clear commitments to provide more support for palliative care services. Really helpful to catch up with my local hospice provider, Southern Hospice Group. It is vital we keep life-limiting illness at the top of the political agenda.

Benches and trees line the path, and the hospice building is visible in the background. Image is of a handmade book. The cover has an image of a tree-lined path leading to the sea. The title reads: Remembering those we love, you are very welcome to write something within this book.

I have tabled a motion calling on the PM to implement in full the recommendations in the first report from the Ethics and Integrity Commission. We deserve nothing less than total transparency about who has the Government's ear. These recommendations would go a long way towards achieving this.
Graphic reads: Lobbying transparency and public confidence. Motion text
That this House welcomes the first report of the Ethics and Integrity Commission entitled Lobbying, Business Appointment Rules and Disclosure, published in July 2026, following the previous Prime Minister’s request for an urgent review of lobbying transparency, financial interest declarations and post-employment rules; notes the Commission's finding that the current lobbying regime is wholly inadequate, including a narrow definition of who counts as a lobbyist, exemptions for smaller organisations and for lobbying deemed incidental to other business, the exclusion of lobbying of special advisers and other senior officials from registration requirements, and weak enforcement; further welcomes the Commission's recommendations, including a comprehensive Lobbying Register covering all lobbying activity, closing the loophole that allows non-VAT-registered organisations not to register as lobbyists, extended registration covering the lobbying of special advisers and senior officials, Graphic reads: an integrated digital transparency platform bringing together details of ministerial meetings and the lobbying register, mandatory monthly reporting with more information on the purpose of meetings, a graduated fee structure for lobbying registration to protect smaller businesses and charities, and higher civil penalties for non-compliance; also welcomes support for recommendations from within the professional lobbying industry itself, including the Chartered Institute of Public Relations; welcomes the new Prime Minister’s pledge to fix a broken Westminster system; and calls on the Government to implement the Commission's recommendations in full and without delay, including through the necessary primary and secondary legislation, in order to restore public confidence in the integrity and transparency of lobbying and decision-making in government.

The motion is signed by all five Green MPs.

I have already heard from trans constituents who are avoiding essential NHS screening and treatment for fear of being treated without respect and dignity. Ministers told me: “the revised guidance will support the privacy, dignity and safety of all patients” How exactly does this do that?

My reflections this morning, some thoughts on how we build back better from here, and a message to members and constituents. 💚🙏
Sian Berry
Green Party MP for Brighton Pavilion
This morning, in what I know is a very initial and uncomprehensive way, I want to offer some of my personal reflections and thoughts on what we do now, in the wake of both conference, last night's by-election, and following the many powerful and heartfelt messages I have received from residents, constituents and party members in recent days.
I am full of regret for so much that has happened, and very sad Zack is not joining me in Parliament next week. Sincere congratulations to Sagal on winning her seat too.
On the motion, I voted and argued against it because I felt it needed serious amendment, and if not then sending back for more dialogue or voting down. But the clash of conference with an exciting and mobilising by-election campaign meant many of us were persuaded not to campaign publicly for these ends, while proposers were very organised and remained intent upon no changes at all.
I want to take my full share of personal responsibility for the result of all this in the votes at conference. I should have worked harder to persuade more of our leading figures to speak up in a unified way to say that the motion as written was clearly not reflective of our values and policy principles.
Both in the words of the motion and in how they have been heard in the country, I can hear genuine worry about what it means for our communities, and can see genuine damage being done to our strong reputation as a leading, principled and inclusive voice for human rights in Palestine and against the atrocities of the Israeli state.
I regret this hugely, and apologise to members and constituents for where we are now as a party, which I know is causing real concern. To Green Party members - especially those for whom thoughts of leaving must have crossed their minds in recent days - I say please stay and let us fix this together.
I am very glad that Zack has now said that he would have voted against the motion as it stood, and that he has agreed we have work now to do. We are not at all where we want to be today, but I know we can build from this starting point if we work together in a new spirit.
I stand ready to work with all my colleagues to restore trust in our processes and our party, fix the serious flaws in the motion that was passed, as well as to restore key policies aimed at inclusive peace-building.
And my principles dictate that I will always want to help find a way to do this work through understanding, listening and consensus building.
To my constituents, I want to reassure you this morning that the party's currently stated policy on this issue does not reflect my values, and that it will make no difference to the inclusive way in which I represent our fantastic, diverse, kind and inclusive community here in Brighton.
With love and respect to all, I look forward to important conversations taking place in the coming days and weeks to find a way to make sure our party is again a unified, enthusiastic and very clear voice for understanding, peace and human rights for all people.

I wanted to speak on an amendment to motion EO2 Zionism is racism at Green Party conference today, but was not called on. I’ve copied over what I would have said in the next posts. I was heartbroken this amendment fell and that the vote went against providing this protection for Jewish members.
Text of amendment 3 to motion EO2 Zionism is racism

Safeguarding Jewish party membership

This amendment is to mitigate the possiblity that this motion could be used to achive indirect discrimination against practising Jews

Add after actions 2. ADD

This motion shall not be used to pressure, proscribe or discipline members based on affiliation with Jewish community institutions, such as synagogues, community centres or denominational groups, that describe themselves as Zionist or used to discipline or sanction Jewish members for expressing views that would be non sanctionable if expressed by non Jewish members such as (such as support for a binational state, or two state solution).

To Jewish members of the Green Party: Assurances, from the motion proposers, that they had no intention for Jewish members to feel targeted for their beliefs or associations have been clear. And if anyone else does try to use it in this way, I will be there for you with my solidarity and support.
Statement reads: As Greens, we will always uphold universal human rights.

We will never tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment.

We will continue to stand in opposition to genocide, ethnic cleansing, apartheid and the illegal occupation.

We will continue to call out the heinous crimes of the Netanyahu government.

And we will continue to work to ensure that the Green Party is an anti-racist party in every way.

We know there is no conflict between supporting the rights of Palestinians and the rights of Jewish people.

A £276 increase in bills in January would be the final straw for millions across the country. The Prime Minister must turn words into actions and stop bills going up on his watch.
Green graphic image with Hannah Spencer's photo quoting her: 'The Prime Minister must commit to stopping bills rising'. Full quote reads:

“Andy Burnham keeps talking about giving families breathing space. But actions speak louder than words and bills are still going up on his watch when people can’t afford it.

A £276 increase in January would be the final straw for many people in the constituency I represent and for millions across the country.

The Prime Minister must commit now to stopping bills going up in January, starting with moving more costs off energy bills, properly funding a national home insulation scheme, clamping down on rampant profiteering by energy companies, and rapidly scaling up cheaper, cleaner energy.”

WE NEED FAIR VOTING BEFORE THE NEXT ELECTION

ELLIE CHOWNS
MP FOR NORTH HEREFORDSHIRE

"The PM cannot acknowledge the unfairness of a system capable of handing power to a government with a minority of the vote share, and then say the answer is to let that happen exactly once more before he fixes it.

Burnham must act with urgency to immediately jumpstart the National Commission, guarantee timely progress, and ensure its recommendations are delivered in time for a fairer voting system to be in place at the next general election."

I have said before and will again: any electoral reform commission must NOT rule out a change of system BEFORE the next election if needed. We cannot risk a minority vote handing a huge majority to any party that would take a shredder to democracy itself.

HOPE IS NOT JUST A SLOGAN, IT NEEDS TO MEAN REAL CHANGE

ZACK POLANSKI
LEADER OF THE GREEN PARTY

"Unlike his predecessor, we have a PM who talks like he gets it. But sadly like his predecessor he isn’t prepared to break from the powerful and wealthy interests that have created an inequality, affordability and a climate crisis.

Hope is not just a slogan, it needs to mean real change. The speech today had no wealth taxes, no rent controls, no water nationalisation and a strong hint of more North Sea drilling.

It is disappointing that we have a country ready to break from the last 40 years, a Labour government with the majority to do it, and yet what we see are more half measures, reannouncements and tinkering."
