So, the reason we mock horrible fascists is not to make fascists change their minds. It is to show they are mockable. It breaks the veneer of respectability and power. It gives others social permission to mock them. Satire is poisonous to power because it makes opposition both fun and collaborative. 1/3

There's no reason, no excuse, no logic, nothing that justifies a filmmaker using generative A.I. It's just bad. decider.com/2026/10/09/a...
DECIDER

LOG IN

Directed and produced by DuVernay via her
ARRAY production company, 74th is a companion
piece to 73th, DuVernay's Oscar-nominated
documentary about the prison industrial complex,
through the lens of the Thirteenth Amendment to
the United States Constitution. Similarly, 74th
examines the Fourteenth Amendment--which
addresses rights related to citizenship, voting,
insurrection. and more-and the Reconstruction
era following the Civil War, connecting it to the
current administration's attacks on those rights

There's an extended portion of the film that--
while explaining the rise of Black Americans in
politics and civil life following the end of slavery-
features black-and-white, archival photos that
have been "brought to life." The subjects of the
once-still photos blink, laugh, and fidqet, iust as
they might on film. Anyone with a Facebook feed
will recognize the eerie, uncanny vibe that
indicates the use of generative Al.

To put it another way, if incomes were to grow in line with the average for the period from 1961 to the pandemic, households could expect to be around £5K better off in 2029 than they were in 2024. Instead, on average, we're currently set to be hundreds of pounds poorer.

Confirmed, the science cosplayers running the show at the WHO have decided that "droplet precautions" are appropriate for pneumonic plague. This is the 2024 WHO guidance. This is why we need to see serious jail time for their COVID negligence, NOW. iris.who.int/server/api/c... #medsky
6.2. Infection prevention and control
Infection prevention and control measures are aimed at preventing the transmission
of plague bacteria to health care workers and spread among other patients. They include
using:
• standard precautions in addition to droplet precautions. Standard precautions should
be used to manage all patients with suspected plague. Droplet precautions should be
adhered to for all patients with suspected pneumonic plague in addition to isolation;
• isolation arrangements for patients with suspected or confirmed pneumonic plague
(Annex 8);
• safe handling and burial practices for bodies (Section 8.3.1.1);
• carefully cleaning and disinfecting instruments. Instructions on preparing solutions
for disinfection are given in Annex 9;
• source control for patients with primary or secondary pneumonic plague, including
applying a medical mask to the patient when possible and tolerated.

This Steam review made me cry... ;-; It really hammers in on the things I was trying to do and say. Made me really happy to read 💕
"Horror stories about overcoming trauma" is one of my favorite genres, if not my absolute favorite. And among those, the favorites among my favorites tend to be queer horror, since queerness lends itself to becoming intimately familiar with trauma from that particular lens.

To me, Our Wonderland sits among the best examples of that genre, including the likes of We Know the Devil and Echo.

To say what separates Our Wonderland from the others, though, I will say first that the horror is more concrete in nature, less abstract. There's a lot of physical violence and violations (and it's absolutely worth heeding the content warnings). This is not to say the horror isn't still absurd--it goes to extreme, otherworldly lengths, to the point I'm tempted to call it splatterpunk. It can feel almost exploitative or gratuitous, but in my opinion, this just helps contribute to the themes being explored.

Now onto the more critical difference between this and other queer horror: There is a distinct focus on the harm that queer people inflict on each other. The story acknowledges that the ultimate source of a lot of this harm still lies within broader culture enforcing unnecessary universal standards onto people who don't fit the mold in question, but it takes that idea and focuses on how queer people can still internalize those standards and, in turn, inflict them on each other, turning themselves into part of the problem.

The story also illustrates how a big part of the problem comes from queer people not having the language to describe what it is they're feeling or experiencing, not having any real examples of people who are similar to them so that they know alternative ways of living are possible. They don't know that what they're internalizing and what they're doing to each other is harmful, because they've never known anything but this harm. It's simply normal to them.

The end result of this state of living is that everyone is trapped in a nightmare that they don't unders…
