Rank-and-file Democrats — and, I’d wager, a substantial portion of the voting public — do not want compromise and cooperation. They want accountability. And if we hope to confine Trumpism to the ash-heap of history, then accountability is the only choice there is to make.

WOW. Kristi Noem and Elon Musk, among others, "chose to turn the power of the federal government against a singular employee with an impeccable record of public service. ... The attacks against Ms. Comans were based entirely on false information" and many officials "knew [they] were untrue."
In conducting this hearing, the Court is not called upon to resolve factual disputes between
the parties. The facts set forth in this Memorandum Opinion and Order were proposed by the
Plaintiff, unobjected to by the Government, and then deemed admitted by the Court. Dkts. 74, 75,
77.2 These facts establish that high-ranking government officials, including then Secretary of DHS
Kristi Noem and Elon Musk, engaged in a coordinated public relations campaign to impugn the
personal and professional integrity of Ms. Comans. For reasons unfathomable to this Court,
officials chose to turn the power of the federal government against a singular employee with an
impeccable record of public service. In short, Ms. Comans was professionally targeted and
personally attacked by government officials for no legitimate reason. The attacks against Ms.
Comans were based entirely on false information, and many government officials knew the
accusations were untrue at the time they were made. With no regard for the truth and with no
consideration for the personal and professional effect on Ms. Comans, government officials
exploited their access to mass media outlets to broadcast false information. These false
statements reached hundreds of millions of people. The purpose of this Order is, to the best of
this Court’s ability, to correct the public record and establish as a matter of law that the
statements made by these officials about Ms. Comans were objectively and demonstrably false.

ICE is now lying in wait outside convenience stores, or at busy intersections. Agents are arresting people at international airports. Local police and sheriffs, deputized by the federal government, are detaining immigrants during traffic stops. ICE is now detaining more immigrants than ever before.

ICE's new policy is unprecedented. People who have detained for months are suddenly disappearing from the locator system — even if they haven't been moved. And people newly arrested are not showing up at all, their location now hidden from view. This will severely interfere with legal access.

Post from NYT reporter Eric Lipton

Trump appears to believe he is immune from any kind of legal limit."

But I just did what nearly all writing about the issue does: talked about the percent of women on campus who will become victims without talking about the percent of men on campus who will become perpetrators. Most campus rape victims know their assailants.
1 in 8 students experiences sexual violence during college.
The 2019 Campus Climate Survey found that 13% of undergraduate students experienced rape or sexual assault after enrolling in college.

That’s about:

• 1 in 4 undergrad women (26%)

• 1 in 14 undergrad men (7%)

who experienced nonconsensual sexual contact by physical force or inability to consent since enrolling at their school.

kind of funny that Benedict's social conservatism is basically how 95% of trads understood him when the man was infinitely more complex
“Back to Europe. A third model was added to the two models of the 19th century: socialism. Socialism took two main paths — the democratic and the totalitarian one. Democratic socialism became a healthy counterbalance to radically liberal positions in both existing models. It enriched and corrected them. It proved itself even when religious confessions took over. In England, it was the Catholic party, which felt at home neither in the Protestant-Conservative nor in the Liberal camp. Also in Wilhelmine Germany, the Catholic center could continue to feel closer to democratic socialism than to the conservative powers. In many ways, democratic socialism stands and stood close to the Catholic social teachings. It in any case contributed a substantial amount to the education of social conscience.”
