Some solar eclipse pics. Not bad for a telescope that really needs some calibration and a camera that was basically held by electrical tape to the adapter

You should but an old non functioning car covered in moss and bring it back to life. I'm doing this right now to a 1990 Ford Sierra and it's a so much fun. That is, a solid mix of type 1 and 2 fun.

Haters will say that it’s a “wreck” and a “money holy” but in reality, this 1990 Ford Sierra is in mint condition with only some minor flaws like not working. I’m sure putting it back on the road won’t be that hard.
A moss overgrown 1990 Ford Sierra from the front. The tires are visibly deflated and the original color is hardly visible though the grimeSame Sierra but from the rear-side view. The moss and grime are even more obvious

Idk that just looks like a launch price for Falcon 9. Maybe a bit higher than normal (from what we know) but hardly bailout money. Maybe the contract also includes a Falcon Heavy or two which would increase the price significantly.

As a European I have absolutely no idea how a window unit could work here. There just isn't any sensible way to mount it. Best we can do on the cheap is a portable unit with a horrible material windows seal. They do suck and are loud but at least they are there for extreme heat

Starship isn’t designed to splashdown, it was obvious that it’ll tip over and explode, it’s supposed to return to land. The issue with this testflight is that it’s the 12th one and it still doesn’t work. The booster lost engines and smashed into the gulf. Fuck Musk but this video is not the problem.

Shirokami @shirokami.bsky.social · 23/05/2026
They were successful in convincing the people that explosions are a normal part of a testflight. They could have easily prevented the vast majority of failures in this entire program by just doing a good job designing and simulating the rocket before actually building anything

Shirokami @shirokami.bsky.social · 23/05/2026
No visible burnthroughs on reentry but visible discoloration on the heatshield. It’s actually embarrassing. 12 test flights and it’s still nowhere near finished. Oh and fun fact, test flights are usually meant to validate that the design works, not to check if it does, you use simulations for that.

Starship flight 12 review. Nothing improved. The new engines still don’t work, lost one during the burn, one seems to have exploded during boostback and the ship lost one immediately. Ship engine relight wasn’t conducted. Booster slammed into the gulf at supersonic speeds...

You know things are going well when the IPO talks about building a Kardashev Type-II civilization. A very normal and serious company.
A paragraph from SpaceX IPO filing staying: "We believe the next paradigm shift for humanity is the creation of a resilient, perpetually expanding spacefaring civilization that drives continuous innovation across new frontiers, ultimately propelling us to Kardashev Type II status—a civilization that harnesses the full energy output of our Sun. In the near term, we expect space-enabled technologies to enhance life on Earth through greater global connectivity and breakthroughs forged in the harsh environments of our solar system, leading to accelerating progress in energy and AI. As we build infrastructure in the Earth’s orbit, and potentially on the Moon, Mars and beyond, we believe we are capable of unlocking an era of unprecedented economic expansion, while also contributing to the safeguards of humanity’s future against existential risk."

Thinking back to one of the greatest hater editorials of all time, along with its sheepish correction (49 years later): 🧪https://graphics8.nytimes.com/packages/pdf/arts/1920editorial-full.pdf
His Plan Is Not Original.

That Professor GODDARD, with his "chair" in Clark College and the countenancing of the Smithsonian Institution, does not know the relation of action to reaction, and of the need to have something better than a vacuum against which to react --to say that would be absurd. Of course he only seems to lack the knowledge ladled out dally in high schools.JULY 17, 1969: On Jan. 13, 1920, Topics of The Times, an editorial- page feature of The New York Times, dismissed the notion that a rocket could function in a vacuum and commented on the ideas of Robert H. Goddard, the rocket pioneer, as follows: "That Professor Goddard, with his 'chair' in Clark College and the countenancing of the Smithsonian Institution, does not know the relation of action to reaction, and of the need to have something better than a vacuum against which to react - to say that would be absurd. Of course he only seems to lack the knowledge ladled out daily in high schools." Further investigation and experimentation have confirmed the findings of Isaac Newton in the 17th century and it is now definitely established that a rocket can function in a vacuum as well as in an atmosphere. The Times regrets the error.
