The world’s oceans have overheated due to fossil fuel-driven climate change, and we’re seeing the impacts of it right now. In the US, there are 3 examples of extreme precip: a tropical system bringing torrential rain to Hawaii; heavy monsoon rains in NM; and a strong, early-season Nor’easter.

The oceans are absorbing 92% of the excess heat to the climate system from the addition of heat-trapping pollutants to the atmosphere. Just last year, the ocean added ~24 ZJ of energy. That’s the equivalent of releasing about 12 Hiroshima bombs of heat into the ocean EVERY SECOND.
