The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

the haunting
an illustration of jude from the graphic novel 'strange cases' in a cathedral-like setting, holding scales with lit candles, as though it was a candelabra. the smoke from the candles swirl around him, leading to a looming statue of his mother holding a sword. her sculpted visage is partially weathered and damaged, exposing the bones that lay underneath the statue. surrounding him are more statues, this time of saints, similarly weathered, with their bones partially exposed.

star-eyed mage
an illustration of a mage clad in dark armour and a blue and purple cloak, whose left eye has been replaced with a star, the flesh around which is scarred with blood dripping from it. her hair billows around her, following the comet-like trail of the light from her replaced eye. she holds a tome in her armoured-glad left hand, the tips of which are stained with blood. smaller stars are scattered around her.

i love frankenstein (2025) so much #art
artwork of the creature from frankenstein (2025). the creature is the central figure, his body abstracted into the swathes of blues and greens, with a tinge of red, with details of furs of his coat and candles lit with red flames. his torso is carved out, exposing red flesh and a heart connected with veins that have some sprouting flowers, and the final scene of the creature embracing the morning sun. framing the creature are various body parts as well as the halves of victor and elizabeth's faces.

As always, new devs get it in the shorts twice with these things: not only are companies laying off (meaning they don't have openings for new devs), the jobs that ARE available are going to be snapped up by the people getting laid off, meaning we're essentially reaching a point of zero new blood.

SCOOP: double fine is unionizing
ouble Fine, the Microsoft-owned studio behind Psychonauts and, more recently, experimental fare like Keeper and Kiln, is set to unionize, per a petition filed to the National Labor Relations Board.

The petition, filed May 7, says that like other Microsoft games division studios that have unionized to date, Double Fine workers are making their unionization push in conjunction with Communications Workers of America (CWA). The union will include all “regular part-time and full-time employees”—a total of 42.

“On May 7, the workers at Microsoft studio Double Fine Productions announced their decision to form a union with CWA to preserve and extend the studio’s commitments to creative excellence, diversity and inclusion, and worker quality of life," CWA said in a statement to Aftermath. "In tandem with requesting voluntary recognition from the company, workers have also filed an election petition with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to secure union representation. We appreciate that Microsoft has taken a neutral approach and agreed not to interfere in any way with worker’s rights to organize unions.”

okay now figure in how many weren't thinking of leaving the industry but having that decision imposed upon them. Lets also be clear this isn't just a shame for those people, but it will manifest as worse games being more expensive to make, and making less money overall. This is a problem.

Library fines have gotten weird since the change in management
In this digital painting, a girl is walking down the spiral staircase of a library, carrying a box of treasures in her arms. She has a brown canvas backpack full of books on her back. In the center of the tower-shaped library, a two-headed dragon rests atop a massive pile of books. One of the heads is sleeping, while the other has just awoken and peeks with one cyan eye at the girl descending the stairs. A very anxious librarian is a short distance up the stairs, gripping the rail and his cane, and an equally anxious library assistant sits on the stair above him. Blue stained glass windows cast a bright light through the image, and a normal window somewhere offscreen lets in a vibrant warmth that hits the girl and the dragon. The girl appears uncertain too, and has an overdue notice in her backpack -- she is delivering overdue fines to the dragon, in the form of personal treasures!

hi #PortfolioDay im mint!! i love working with fantasy and gothic horror themes 💌 spearmintaii@gmail.com 🌿 mintaii.carrd.co
a lone knight swathed in green armour stands in the dark, knee deep in water, holding an axe. from where she holds it, the metal of her weapon is slowly transforming into sprouting leaves and vines. behind her are several weapons that have long since turned into twisting branches that blend in with the surrounding flora. roots that resemble clawed hands cling to the handles of these weapons. a gothic horror au interpretation of jayce and viktor from arcane. a dishevelled jayce stands, holding a bloodstained silver hammer, looking up with watery eyes. there's blood staining his face and splattered on his clothes and armour, with scratches marring his leather coat. his left hand is balled into a fist, rot and blood coating his skin. in the background is a semi-eroded, semi-hollowed out, golden statue of a younger him, illuminated from behind by golden fire. golden claws reach out to this statue. framing this, is a structure made up of pale brick and rotting arches. within the arches flanking jayce on either side, are broken stained glass images of him as piltover's man of progress.

for viktor's illustration: viktor stands, looming, holding a staff which carries an eerie, pale flame in its clawed crown. his mask is partially broken, exposing only his human right eye. he holds a clawed hand up to his chest, where red flesh in the vague shape of a heart is exposed, with five puncture marks in it. behind him is a broken, stone statue of his younger self– his face has sliced off the statue and is slipping down. framing him is a stone structure comprised of three main archways, with vein-like ornamentation and clawed hands reaching out to viktor in reverance. within the thicker pillars of this structure, are small arched frames, depicting viktor's transformation through magic. Marcille is sewing a large patchwork quilt of Falin, with her thread being depicted as a long, thin, bloody sinew. Varying shades of red are used in the quilt, with some patches portrayed as parts of the Red Dragon. Falin's skeleton is used as the main component of the quilt's pattern work; her face split into two patchwork pieces at either side of her skull as Marcille slowly sews it back together. Beneath her ribs, is a large centre piece depicting a heart, with a silhouette of Falin lying on top of it. Tiny figures of Laois and Falin as a child stand on the quilt, looking at each other.

Interactive romance has its own set of structures and narrative expectations that need to be accounted for. Treating it like any other dialogue and/or not considering chemistry - between the player and the character, and the player and your systems - has outsized effects.

would love to see a thread of small practical pieces of advice developers just starting out or unfamiliar with a genre might not know! I’ll start: if you’re using a tag-based system, don’t just give everything an individual tag—look for thematic groups where similar events can lead to same outcome
