Kondo Junji (Japanese, b. 1980) - Shining Forest

Visual and Sensory Analysis
In Shining Forest, contemporary Japanese artist Kondo Junji depicts a serene, otherworldly winter landscape bathed in nocturnal starlight. A grove of luminous, silver-white coniferous trees—rendered with delicate, crystalline detail—stands in sharp contrast against a deep ultramarine blue backdrop. In the night sky above, a slender crescent moon casts a gentle radiance across subtle swaths of stardust or shimmering snow grains drifting through the cold air. Layered mountain silhouettes fade softly into the lapis-colored horizon, establishing a sense of vast depth behind the glowing forest canopy. In the lower left corner, a small red artist seal anchors the bottom of the canvas.
Born in 1980, Kondo Junji belongs to a prominent lineage of modern Nihonga (Japanese-style painting) artists who bridge classical mineral-pigment techniques with contemporary poetic realism. His work often draws visual inspiration from the luminescent, atmospheric landscapes of Nihonga masters such as Higashiyama Kaii, while bringing a modern, ethereal clarity to natural subjects.

Kondo's technique showcases extraordinary monozukuri (artistic mastery and material craftsmanship). Working within the traditional Nihonga medium, he utilizes crushed natural mineral pigments (iwa-enogu), pulverised shell powder (gofun), lapis lazuli, and delicate applications of silver leaf or metallic pigments.

Do you have any idea why the Canadiens app announced a goal by Caulfield a minute into the game & yet the game ended 0-0 ? Did it get disallowed? It's still on the app after midnight.

An old favourite from a trip to the Westfjords of #Iceland back in Sept 2019.

A few layers of landscape with some sun illuminating autumnal grasses in the middle. The back shows scree slopes which are almost blue.

It’s hard enough for cities in Canada to do smarter things given how often bad city leaders hurt their own cities. But it’s extra infuriating watching awful provincial premiers sabotaging cities by ripping out good things they FINALLY managed to achieve. Premiers should not have that power, period.

This is how new urban districts should look like 🚶🏽🇸🇪 The master plan for the Frihamnen district in Gothenburg is a masterclass in human-scale neighborhood building: fine-grained, dense urban fabrics with attractive and lively streets. Here are some highlights: 🧵
