There is just no getting around this bit from the latest Chotiner interview. Doctors Without Borders has never seen this before: the number of civilian casualties, the inescapability of death, the fact that everyone knows what is happening BUT IT DOESN'T STOP.

Doctors Without Borders has been present in a lot of horrific conflict zones, & I'm wondering how what you're dealing with now is similar or different from other places you have experienced?

It's different. And yes, I have worked in conflict zones & they're always very nasty. But this is a particularly brutal thing because of the huge number of civilian casualties. And they can't escape it. They can't move. They're told to displace down south. But are we talking about just reducing the area from forty-five kilometres to twenty kilometres in length and trying to put two million people in there, which is ... It's just an extraordinary situation. And no, I haven't seen it.

They haven't stopped bombing. They're still bombing. They've got troops in there with tanks. And it's just consistent. It's well documented. We are seeing it all over the world in all the newspapers and television. So it's like people know exactly what's happening. And yet it doesn't stop. I haven't seen that before.

IDF spokesperson confirms live on air with CNN that the Israeli military did indeed bomb the Jabalia refugee camp in Gaza. He says a Hamas commander was 'hiding' in the camp. Dozens of people were killed. Local hospital staff say most are women and children.

Amnesty has verified 6 videos of an attack on 13 October 2023, resulting in civilian casualties along Salah-Al Deen street, a route the Israeli army had designated as safe for civilians to flee after an Israeli ‘order’ told them to leave northern #Gaza.

I suspect that VdL's position will ultimately be untenable, not for moral reasons (which should be enough) but for impact of this, damage to EU's credibility on Ukraine and overstepping her authority and position within the EU's decision making structures.

Gallant is ordering a massive war crime (ICC 8.2.b.xxv) & very likely a crime against humanity (ICC 7.1.b, 7.2.b [extermination] / 7.1.k [inhumane acts]). Presence of combatants w/in a civ. popul'n does not affect its civ. character (AP I 50.3). Possibly genocide (ICC 6.c). ICC has jurisdiction.
