After Ocean's conversion of Technos beat-'em-up Renegade, its arcade successor Double Dragon became a huge hit... and Ocean missed out on the licence. So in true Ocean fashion, they invented their own Renegade sequel instead. New post on Target: Renegade: www.superchartisland.com/target-renegade

Yoshihisa Kishimoto and Technos set some key standards in early beat-’em-ups with 熱血硬派くにおくん, Nekketsu Kōha Kunio-kun or, as it was known in the West, Renegade. Having launched Kunio-kun as the main…

This was a great game to play with my dad and brother. The only downside, we were playing on a black and white television. We got surprisingly good at distinguishing the various shades of grey.

Two final Nintendo photos from Kyoto. The corporate head office and Development Centre No 1, with the nice big sign out the front. The guard at the Development centre was clearly used to people turning up and asking to photograph the sign.
A disappointing photo of the Nintendo head office. A square, grey building with recessed windows. There are two empty flagpole on the right of frame. If this was the UK that would mean the King wasn't home.A much better photo of Development Centre No 1. A grey Nintendo logo sits on a low white wall at the front right. A road leads back through an open gate to a white building with blue tinted windows. The friendly security guard has sensibly stepped out of frame. He was over to the left.

Today's unexpected thing. A Phillip K Dick exhibition in the main Ogaki book shop in Kyoto.
A display board about Phillip K Dick including an author photo and list of books, in Japanese. A display of Japese book covers for Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep , Martian Time Slip, and A Scanner Darkly. All illustrated with single colour line drawings.A tabletop display of t-shirts with book covers printed on them.A wall of the books themselves.

The Mario Club building Kyoto, as photographed from the Keihan Main line heading north. Annoyingly there's a wall which blocks decent views. No doubt to stop prying eyes like mine. 1/3
The Nintendo sign on the Mario Club building at Nintendo Development Centre No 1. A featureless white panelled building with darker windows. The Nintendo logo is also in white and stands slightly forward of the building to which it is attached. A better look at all three floors of the Mario Club building at Nintendo Development Centre No 1. A featureless white panelled building with darker windows. The building is angled to give views of the front and left sides.
