Eating that MUFF
A photo of a cutaway showing the internal systems of the Muffaletta class sandwich. There are three central decks for personel (salami and ham) and the radiation shielding consisting of mozzarella and provolone cheeses. The remainder of the cutaway shows the signature hull of the Muffaletta class: French bread with an inner olive spread.

If a person has a big platform, they have a responsibility to behave in a way that minimizes the harm that platform can do. They need to disavow the bad behavior when they see it, and not participate. Not doing so is irresponsible and harmful.

Got some fun bulbs and shades for the inherited lamps and put em with our vinyl setup ^_^
A photo of a vintage vinyl listening setup. There is a technics turntable and some Yamaha and pioneer gear sitting on a wicker table. To the left and right are two pivot armed brass desk lamps with black silhouette lampshades and color burst novelty bulbs. Above the table mounted on the wall is the ikea record shelf containing the risk of rain 2 OST vinyl.

it's been a minute since I've posted some pixel art but I made some for a video earlier and took a shot at doing a quick little animation with it

So if anyone is curious on how to use pixel art in a video with kdenlive: pre-render the segments containing your pixel art with 'nearest' interpolation and then import those to be used in the final render. This will keep your pixel art from getting smudgy :)

It’s been said before, but bears repeating: LLMs are the ideal technology of fascism. Multifaceted and incredibly powerful in their ability to erode the notion of truth.

I am not a religious person, so it is natural for me to recognize irrationality when I see it. Ghosts do not exist, and machines are only sentient if you move the goalposts into a realm we can't see or define.

You know what's missing from the AI fears discussion? Stuxnet and NotPetya If you're familiar with those cyberweapons, then software that autonomously spreads, messes up computer systems, and ends up acting in ways beyond its creators' intentions or control isn't a brand new shock.

This is why I think it's so important to push back against the personification of LLMs. If a person shoots someone while wearing a hand puppet, they can't claim the hand puppet did the murder.

Oh, you're absolutely right! That plane was at 1000 feet, not 10000 feet. My mistake. The next step is likely cleanup. Best practice is to read up on the MSDS before attempting the handling of aircraft crash debris.

On Pigeons
This morning I woke up to find that the pigeon I had been rehabbing passed away in her cage overnight. I got dressed, and took her body to the park in the shoebox that I weighed her in every night. I found a nice secluded tree, and placed her small fragile body into a small grave that I had dug with a trowel. I returned back home, and cleaned her cage one last time. I never intended to be a pigeon guy. It started out simply enough, feeding the birds at my small park. I found a banded racing pige...

Katie looks at a pic on Grindr featuring a muscular man labelled "hungdaddy." She asks "why do all these dudes on Grindr just post their torsos. She types in the app and says "whatever, I'm too horny to think striaght. I'll take a chance on one of 'em." She receives a knock on the door. She opens it and standing in front of her is a armless, legless, headless torso.

Hi, I'm an expert on AI failure modes, not a left-wing pundit, and I am here to happily tell you that it is not smart, it is insensate, it is disembodied, and most importantly it cannot reflect upon or update priors at the model level. The security concerns around it are largely due to foolishness.

A lot of people involved in the active development of LLMs seem to be the type that like to do experiments just so they can stare at the results, much like an excited child making 'potions' with chemicals from under the bathroom sink.

AI CEOs are in awe that their models can, given few constraints, hack autonomously. They're also wracked with a vague fear that their products will soon hack the entire internet. I reported on how it's very curious that they seem utterly disinterested in working with cybersecurity experts on this.

And that's fine. I am not terribly keen on them myself. I am, however, keen on the independently validated research I've been doing for 2 years. The underlying semiotic instabilities are the true concern. They've been at the root of the latest sandbox breakout from Anthropic.

Its a lot of shit that hammers on the same garbage that doesn't work. Alignment is the key! Nope. Underlying meaning parsing and manufacturing is broken. Alignment will fail when meaning is absent. Nuke it all! Not gonna work either man. Lalalala it's all fine! No, it really isn't.

You're going to hear a lot of talk about alignment today. This is not the issue. The issue is semiotic instability. Alignment is problematic because it's built on sand where meaning is concerned.

Did you know that In the movie Galaxy Quest the character Gwen DeMarcos' (played by Sigourney Weaver) sole responsibility on the ship was to talk to the ship computer? This was done because the only way to adequately secure a semiotic system is to restrict access to a single person.
