2026's 100th orbital launch attempt was a good one! Atlas V 551 successfully launched another set of Amazon Leo satellites into, well, LEO! I believe the faint red glow is ionized oxygen glowing in the exhaust, similar to an Aurora, but I'm really not sure.

Falcon 9 launched yet another batch of Starlinks at dawn this morning.
Starlink Group 10-24 late during second stage burn.
The exhaust plume is very bright because it is still night at the surface, but daylight up in space where it is.

NASA isn't why the US doesn't have universal healthcare, or a social safety net. The US doesn't have those things because politicians with the power to provide them choose specifically not to (with varying levels of support from voters). Enthusiasm for human spaceflight doesn't drive that choice.

@ulalaunch.bsky.social launched some more Amazon Leo satellites on Atlas V!
The orange dot is the hot, incandescent exhaust right at the base of the rocket's first stage shortly before BECO (Booster Engine Cut Off), with a dim exhaust plume trailing it in a conical shape.

That post from @primawesome about coyotes and his neighbor's cats, but altered to read: The USGS director told me volcanoes keep eating his webcams so I asked how many cams he has and he said he just goes to procurement and gets a new cam afterwards so I said it sounds like he's just feeding webcams to volcanoes and then his intern started crying.

GPS III SV09 was launched on a Falcon 9. B1096-5 is shown here performing its entry burn before landing.
Using 3 of its 9 Merlin engines, the booster slows down to ease atmospheric stresses as it comes down for a landing on the drone ship offshore. The rocket exhaust continues to glow for a while after it leaves the immediate vicinity of the descending booster.

Hurricane Melissa produced the fastest hurricane winds to be recorded by a dropsonde, verified by reviewing data at NSF NCAR! Hurricane Melissa’s 252 mph wind gust surpassed the previous record from Typhoon Megi over the Western Pacific in 2010, where a dropsonde measured wind gusts of 248 mph.

🔭 A Rocket in the Sun Image Credit & Copyright: Pascal Fouquet apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap25092...
On the morning of September 24 a rocket crosses the bright solar disk in this long range telescopic snapshot captured from Orlando, Florida. That's about 50 miles north of its Kennedy Space Center launch site. This rocket carried three new space weather missions to space. Signals have now been successfully acquired from all three - NASA's Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe, NASA’s Carruthers Geocorona Observatory, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Space Weather Follow-On Lagrange 1 (SWFO-L1) - as they begin their journey to L1, an Earth-Sun lagrange point. L1 is about 1.5 million kilometers in the sunward direction from planet Earth. Appropriately, major space weather influencers, aka dark sunspots in active regions across the Sun, are posing with the transiting rocket. In fact, large active region AR4225 is just right of the rocket's nose.

I recently hiked up to the Monument Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park! The basin is named for the unique bottle shapes that the now inactive geysers take. It is thought that this basin was underwater during the last glacial maximum, despite being 800 feet above the Gibbon river!
