Morning's earthquake seems to have been a sharp jolt that woke everyone up, and the actual quake (3.4 ish). Just went to USGA to check again and oh my fuxing gods... This. That sonofabitch and his cronies are intent on sacking *everywhere.* Surveying land for mining co's should not be USGS purview.

Beyond the horrifying reality that a hospital is trying to "clear the pentobarbital from [Christa Pike's] system" currently, the litigation over Tennessee's actions this week will shine a very clear light on the many, many reasons why governments should not be trusted with killing their citizens.

San Francisco will likely see a top-10 highest tide on record, even with tranquil weather. If a storm coincides, the tidal record could be smashed, and transit chaos is possible. 2/2

Potentially record high tides will threaten San Francisco Bay Area in the days leading up to Thanksgiving and Christmas. Hwy 101 & 37, the Bay Bridge, BART, Amtrak, ferry service and airports could be disrupted by rising seas amid a very strong El Niño. 🧵 1/2

jobs report sucks, markets go up. Been true as long as I've paid attention and it's always seemed like evidence of the divergence between 'the economy' (that real people have to live in) and 'The Economy' (investor class returns.) And yes, I understand why it happens. Please don't explain it at me.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is: #Black&White; any shot in black and white. Alt. is #Vivid; any bird with bright colors. #SnowyEgret #wadingBird #birds #nature #wildlife #thelittlethings #ECK #photography #ClassicMono #B&W
A black and white photograph of a Snowy Egret that is standing in the shallows of the beach with a soft wave braking in the background.

Interesting information:
Among the most elegant of the herons, the slender Snowy Egret sets off immaculate white plumage with black legs and brilliant yellow feet. Those feet seem to play a role in stirring up or herding small aquatic animals as the egret forages. Breeding Snowy Egrets grow filmy, curving plumes that once fetched astronomical prices in the fashion industry, endangering the species. Early conservationists rallied to protect egrets by the early twentieth century, and this species is once again a common sight in shallow coastal wetlands. Male and female Snowy Egrets take turns incubating their eggs. As one mate takes over for the other, it sometimes presents a stick, almost as if passing a baton. Both parents continue caring for the young when they hatch. During the breeding season, adult Snowy Egrets develop long, wispy feathers on their backs, necks, and heads. In 1886 these plumes were valued at $32 per ounce, which was twice the price of gold at the time. Plume-hunting for the fashion industry killed many Snowy Egrets and other birds until reforms were passed in the early twentieth century. The recovery of shorebird populations through the work of concerned citizens was an early triumph and helped give birth to the conservation movement. Snowy Egrets sometimes mate with other heron species and produce hybrid offspring. They have been known to hybridize with Tricolored Herons, Little Blue Herons, and Cattle Egrets.

He's a fabric art statue of sorts, with two wide set black, oblong eyes, and an open black mouth with five gray teeth. He is a gray head, sort of skeletal looking. There's a beautiful galaxy print fabric in the background. Here's another lovely photo of Gusss where he's resting on my palm. Why does he seem upset at me right now?
