NEW: The head of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has issued a statement firmly condemning plans to livestream the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan. Archbishop Paul Coakley calls the decision “a barbaric promotion of a culture of death and must be reconsidered.” www.usccb.org/news/2026/us...

WASHINGTON - Yesterday, the U.S.
Department of War announced that the firing squad execution of Nidal Hasan, the man convicted of killing 13 people and injuring 32 at Fort Hood, Texas in 2009, would be publicly livestreamed. Archbishop Paul S. Coakley, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops issued the following statement sharply condemning the decision of the U.S. government:
"It is with shock and great sorrow that I have learned of the Department of War's decision to publicly livestream the execution of Nidal Hassan. Our God is the God of life. In no way can Hassan's actions be condoned but this decision is a barbaric promotion of a culture of death and must be reconsidered. The word of God exhorts us: 'do not repay anyone evil for evil' (Romans 12:17). The public execution even of one who has done grave harm will only further undermine the moral fabric of our nation and be a blight on the conscience of its people.United States

Sam Altman said people are just gonna have to die in order to implement AI. In the very same week, Anthropic claimed it’s a human rights violation to be mean to the computer. These people need to be held accountable. They think lines of code are a person with rights but living people are debris.

Mullin began the press conference by saying "We are enforcing this nation's laws. Why is it controversial? Why would that be controversial?" As if all of human history doesn't show that laws and their enforcement can be very controversial (e.g., the 1765 Stamp Act and its impact on U.S. history).

Indeed, the fact that Marble Hill is a "geographical curiosity" that is considered to be part of either the Bronx or Manhattan is mentioned before the fact that a child was in the car.

I don't know that I could believe it unless I was living inside of it. And of course, for us, it's a matter of the survival of our nation to understand it and to stop it.

Today, ICE shot a man in a car in the Bronx while a child was in the car. Thankfully the man is expected to survive. You can't reform this. It’s long overdue to abolish this unconstitutional, reckless private military force that is terrorizing our communities nationwide.

We have to go about our daily lives while this shit is going on and we also have to resist in every way we can and it is exhausting and frightening. I am also disgusted by the apathy and collaborationism of so many who have privilege. Many bad things about this nation are being laid bare.

I was trying to explain to people I saw in the UK in the last few days how absolutely terrifying it is to live in this country. (I'm back now.) I don't think they really understood fully, because I don't think you can really understand unless you're in here. It's a horror movie in real life.

*so important*: if you’re voting by mail, assume the USPS will delay because it’s its policy. You can: —put it in drop box —go to counter to watch them postmark in front of you —if you’re dropping it in a mailbox, do it VERY EARLY.

Our built infrastructure robs kids of their freedom of independent mobility. Streets are dominated by oversized vehicles, piloted by aggressive and distracted drivers where one mistake can turn lethal. We sacrificed child development to subsidize the auto industry.

when emerging technologies are guided by long-termist utilitarianism, the public gets the deaths and doesn't get the benefits, while the Musks and Kalanicks get vast wealth... the current LLM/AI space is different in many ways, but utilitarian arguments should still be a massive, screaming red flag
