It’s going to be interesting to see what is now determined ”success”. Even if Doomsday hits $1b (which it definitely will) it is still unlikely to be profitable. However, that’s a lot of people engaging with the movie, which usually means people enjoyed it.

Which is exactly what Lucas did as his ideas evolved to create Empire, then Jedi, then the prequels. It’s the creative process. In this case, Lucasfilm put that process in the hands of individual creators - allowing each to build on the story with their own interpretation and vision of Star Wars.

Complaints about the ST “no plan“ don’t realise how bold its development actually was. Lucasfilm chose to embrace the filmmaking process, empowering the creatives to build a trilogy of films that remained connected, yet were their own individual visions. This will one day get the kudos it deserves.

I saw it at the book store and had no idea it was even a thing. I was so excited! It took me like a month to save for it. I still remember my anxiety on the bus to the shop after school. Was so worried it would be gone. Finally I got home and began reading the first pages of NEW Star Wars - heaven!

I still remember rushing home as a fresh-faced teen with my brand new paperback of Heir to the Empire. Finally, I would learn what happened to Han, Luke, and Leia after Return of the Jedi. That moment, almost 35 years ago, is still so visceral. One of my favourite Star Wars memories. #StarWars
