A knock-on effect of this is that the MCU somewhat erased the memory of how much the "PIRATES" movies would otherwise be considered the foundational 21st Century blockbusters, because so much of the "Marvel-Disney success recipe" jumps off from there (RDJ as Stark doesn't exist w/out Jack Sparrow)

Andor has more "glup shittos" than the average Dave Filoni project right down to its female lead being a minor character from the Original Trilogy. People say it's not the same thing but I struggle to understand how Ahsoka, Ezra, and Sabine are "glup shittos" but Bail Organa and Melshi aren't.

I think a lot of fans have to accept that only Mandalorian and Andor had any sorta cultural impact on anything and most people didn't care to watch or just didn't watch the other streaming shows. Like how many people even know some of these shows exist.

The thing of it is: Michael Bay was, objectively, the IDEAL filmmaker to do "Why We Fight!" for the GWOT; but for the Bush Admin pointedly being *against* doing a big pro-war media push (because they feared a Vietnam-style "homefront fatigue") so we got "TRANSFORMERS" instead 🤷‍♂️

The thing is, all the army stuff in Bay's "Transformers" is as close as Hollywood mostly got to making "9/11 catharsis" military action movies until "IRON MAN;" so in many ways they're probably the pure "zeitgeist movies" of the Bush Era the way MCU Phase 1-3 was for the Obama Years.

I was barely 1 when this movie came out so all this passed me by. But I have to imagine it felt similar to when I saw The Force Awakens teaser in 2014. That feeling of "Holy shit, we're actually back!" I want kids to feel that now.

I've heard stories about how people paid full price for movies just to see the first trailer for The Phantom Menace. I know the hype was legendary. But I often wonder how exciting it must've been for people to see the first moving images for a NEW Star Wars movie. It must've been mindblowing.

Anyways, just thought I'd throw in my big 2 cents on the entire "bad marketing" argument. Go see Forgotten Island while you can. It's a great movie and I don't know how long cinemas will want to keep it up during this month.

If anything, since the start of the decade with the pandemic, most people would rather watch an original animated film at home on a streaming service than to go out of their way to experience it on the big screen, and last year really cemented that with KPDH's success and Elio's flop.

It's a very hard pill to swallow for animation fans to swallow, but they gotta come in terms that what they want in a theatrical animated movie is not really the same as what the general public wants, and that they don't have as strong of an influence to the industry as much as they believe.

Not to mention the tough competition that's going on with all the new movies and, despite being presented as a family film, the grand majority of parents will absolutely not want to bring their kids 6 or less to a movie where they'll end up traumatized by this.

Of course, this isn't defending the companies at all, and keep in mind that I love Forgotten Island. But I honestly believe that Forgotten Island is not a box office winner mainly because it offers next to nothing to make the general public (or non-animation fans) to want to go see it in theaters.

Seriously, throughout the month of September, maybe even before that, I was not able to go to either Facebook or YouTube without seeing one or 2 ad for Forgotten Island pop up to remind me of the movie's existence. So, from what I saw, it's the opposite where FI's marketing campaign was aggressive.

I've seen a growing amount of posts of people saying that Forgotten Island is flopping at the box office because of Universal's lack of marketing for the feature. Honestly...I cannot agree with that because, from my POV, my social media was nothing but FI ads for the past few weeks.
