Excited to be presenting this Thursday at #BGA2026! Join me at 14:45 in UvA 3-4 LT2 for the Education & Cognition session: I’ll present our preliminary findings on environmentally mediated genetic effects on children’s language/literacy - and yes, we also looked at parental personality!

When utilized in literature review, LLMs consistently 1. fail to mention female authors in female-led literatures, 2. insist that men are more influential or more heavily cited when this is contradicted by objective citation counts, and 3. attribute women’s work to hallucinated male scholars.

A study in @nature.com shows that while complex traits are polygenic in population at large, they have distinct architecture at tails, where rare variants of large effect act as key drivers. Not a surprising finding but neat to see it demonstrated in large UK Biobank cohort across traits & methods.🧪

Pleitropy (a set of known variants influencing the target 'positive' trait yet also potentially influencing another unknown -perhaps negative- outcome is already concern by itself (even if you don't care about the ethics and exacerbeting existing inequalities part of it which obviously you should)

Not sure who came up with "Manhattan Plot", but in 2014 I coined the alternative term "Nijmegen Plot" (inspired by the Dutch town where I live) to describe underwhelming results from our earliest genome-wide association scans of language/reading traits.
