Today is my 5-year Moko kauae anniversary. Here's five things I learned. 1: I've never been more comfortable in my skin, felt more beautiful and looked more like myself 2: people will call you whaea, and speak reo to you. Pākehā will also absolutely butcher a "Meri kirihimete" at you.

In 1896, 56 years after Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the lowest numbers of Māori population were recorded. There were only 42,000 Māori recorded in 1896. Today 128 years later, 42,000 people showed up to protect Te Tiriti o Waitang, to fight for tino rangatiratanga, to fight against colonialism.
