wow. just wow. and more wow on top. Protestants in Northern Ireland are queueing up to sign an open letter by Rev Karen Sethuraman appealing to the Orange Order and Chris Bryant (SoS for NI) to stop the nonsense.

This image is historic in nature. It's not that there were never sympathetic Protestants and Unionists. It's that to go public 28 years ago (the time of the last march on Garvaghy Road) would've meant risking major harassment, violence, and even death. Women showing up for what's right. 🫡

yikes! this escalated quickly. "The legal and human-rights question is therefore a different one: does the protection of freedom of assembly require that a procession be permitted to follow this particular route through this particular residential community?"
ELDH Statement on the Garvaghy Road Parade
ELOH expresses its serious concern at the decision of the Parades Commission to permit an Orange Order procession along the Garvaghy Road in Portadown, and at the legal and institutional process which has resulted in the reopening of a dispute carrying profound historical significance for the local community and for Northern Ireland as a whole It is essential to be precise about the rights at stake.
This is not a question of denying freedom of peaceful assembly or the right to parade. Those rights are protected, Including under Article 11 of the European Convention on Human Rights Nor IS the question whether members of the Orange Order may assemble, parade or attend Drumcree Church For almost three decades those activities have continued while the procession has followed a route which does not pass along the Garvaghy Road The legal and human-rights question is therefore a different one: does the protection of freedom
of assembly require that a procession be permitted to follow this particular route through this particular residential community, notwithstanding the historical context, the rights and interests
of residents, and the availability of an alternative route which permits the parade itself to take place?

Danny Tommo has been filmed slashing a dinghy in the channel containing migrants and a rescue worker on board. There is no mention of this on the BBC news website at all as far as I can see. Yet when he and his thugs turn up in masks it's all "Legitimate protestors show ankle in Dover".

well said. the illegal settlements "boycott" by the UKGOV will likely be fudged, in my view. I fully expect an announcement soon that it's too difficult to differentiate between goods from illegal settlements and Israeli. the UKgov was on the wrong side of history with South Africa too.

Yikes! France previously supported Israel's right to security/defend itself but this is a big shift. He really lets rip and throws a few punches at Trump too. his call for France to be the new anchor for defence in Europe is interesting. Ireland can do a defence deal with them.

the Irish artists pulling out of Sheerans tour reminds me of how a bunch of Dunnes Stores workers in Dublin boycotted South African goods because of Apartheid. That snowballed into a massive campaign around the globe. I notice a similar reaction now that is beginning to snowball too.
A poster from 1986 depicting a photo of the striking dunnes stores workers in Dublin promoting a MASS PICKET against Apartheid on Henry Street, Dublin july 19th in that year. the dunnes stores strikers meeting Nelson Mandella in Dublin a few years later after apartheid fell and he was released.

Beyond flags & unionist tantrums over Trumps' UI comment, one of the most significant bullet points on the MoU signed today (between the First Ministers of devolved governments in Scotland, Wales & NI) is the commitment to being back in the EU. That puts bigly pressure on Burnham to re-join. 1/2
extract from the MoU specifically talking about the EU.

Europe and international cooperation: Brexit has damaged our economies and limited opportunities for our people. We believe the future of our nations belongs in the European Union.

We want to work together to rebuild and strengthen those European relationships, creating greater opportunities for trade, investment, culture and cooperation.MoU signed by Plaid Cymru SNP & Sinn Féin

Scotland, Wales and Ireland have distinct histories, identities and political traditions. Each of our nations has the right to determine its own future, through democratic means and in accordance with the wishes of its people. Today, Plaid Cymru, the Scottish National Party and Sinn Féin are coming together to reaffirm our commitment to working constructively with one another in the shared interests of our people. We share a belief that the nations and communities we represent deserve greater ambition, greater economic opportunity and a stronger voice in determining their own futures.
