I think what he's trying to say is that actual concerns can and should be talked about, but if they are being raised as an excuse for hate, then there is no place for that. I realise that "legitimate concerns" has been used as a dog whistle, but I'd like to think Mothin isn't doing this here.

I find most clinicians are too tentative when applying plasters over hair. It's much better to be firmer. But agreed, if I've stopped bleeding, a plaster is unnecessary

But a political party is a group of people that share a group of beliefs and we should be able to decide who can join and who can't based on that. Would a Christian church be wrong to tell you you couldn't if you tried to join but maintained that you don't believe in Jesus/God?
