Doorknocking in what was thought to be solid Labour territory around King’s Cross station, and it’s clear @zackpolanski.bsky.social’s message is cutting through. Green campaigners have been working hard and residents are asking: what’s the point of another Labour MP? Exactly! Vote Green.

Four years ago tomorrow was the Truss mini-budget. Every day another news story says Britain is under pressure from global instability. Why can’t we just build homes, and clean energy, with secure jobs? Turns out the answer is even better than I thought. See what you think. HostageNation.com

Statement from Newcastle Green Party on Cllr Astley
Statement from Newcastle Green party on Cllr Astley
As recently as 2025, Councillor Astley was a nominating officer for Homeland, described by Hope not Hate as “a fascist political party that splintered from Patriotic Alternative, the UK’s largest neo-Nazi group”. In 2026 he was announced by Reform Newcastle as one of their candidates for the Scotswood, Benwell and Denton Burn Ward.
In 2025, Astley posted on X, defending racist graffiti on a bus stop in Houghton-le-Spring (reading “F*ck p*kis”) and telling a Muslim member of parliament to “piss off back to Pakistan”.
Before running for election Astley deleted his blog and social media posts. Since they have come to light, he has apologised for “any offence caused”. This isn’t enough. Only last week, Astley spouted the openly racist ‘Great Replacement’ conspiracy theory in the Newcastle City Council chamber, and condemned Newcastle’s multicultural West End.Nigel Farage claims the extreme right is not welcome in Reform. Therefore, we call on Newcastle Reform to:
- Suspend Councillor Astley immediately and eject him from the Reform Group on the Council
- Explain how and why a recent organiser for a fascist party was selected as a candidate for Reform
- Clearly state on all their social media channels that they explicitly reject the baseless, dangerous and overtly racist ‘Great Replacement’ conspiracy theory

A united city standing together against racism 🫂 We're bringing a council motion tomorrow to reaffirm our role as a city of sanctuary, request the government provide safe + legal routes for those seeking asylum, and work with the police and community leaders to fight hatred wherever it may appear.

We're bringing a motion to council tomorrow to end the bulky item collection charge 🗑 Council data tells us working class communities have higher levels of litter and fly-tipping, so we want to find out if the bulky item collection charge is part of the problem!

Our statement on Armed Forces Day.
ARMED FORCES DAY

Yesterday, a group of Green Party councillors attended Armed Forces Day as a mark of our respect for the brave men and women who serve in our armed forces.

It is a source of national shame that many veterans return from careers spent selflessly serving their country only to find themselves on the front line of ongoing cuts to public services. Our government must do far more to ensure that veterans - and all public servants - are protected from poverty, insecurity, and destitution.

Days like yesterday remind us of the important role our armed forces played in defeating fascism and defending the liberties we enjoy today. At the same time, we recognise the profound human cost of the illegal and unjust wars in which our country has sometimes participated - wars that have claimed the lives of service personnel and countless innocent civilians abroad.

Many of these wars have served the interest of political and economic elites at times of declining living standards for the working class communities who disproportionately dedicate their lives to the armed forces.

As we honour those who serve, we commit ourselves to respecting their bravery and sacrifice, and making sure that they have a decent and dignified life to return to afterwards.

As @nickhartleygreen.bsky.social says, we knew it was important to be grown ups and put people before party politics. The stability and cooperation agreement we've signed with the Liberal Democrats will ensure that we have good governance and get things done over this next year.

Yesterday showed exactly why Newcastle is turning to the Greens. Again and again in speeches, @nclgreenparty.bsky.social councillors were the ones standing up against inequality, speaking up for communities and pushing for a more hopeful, inclusive politics focused on people and planet.

Newcastle's Green Group and Liberal Democrat Group have reached an agreement for the upcoming council arrangement! 📣
Newcastle Council Update:
Liberal Democrats and Greens sign Stability and Co-Operation Agreement.

Councillor Nick Hartley, Leader of the Green Group, and Councillor Colin Ferguson, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group, have reached an agreement for Newcastle City Council's new leadership arrangement following the 7th May elections.Following the local elections, Newcastle City Council remains under no overall control, with residents electing a council split across several political groups and no single party able to govern alone. In response to that result, the Liberal Democrat and Green groups have agreed a Stability and Co-operation Agreement designed to provide stable leadership for the city while strengthening democratic accountability and cross-party working. The agreement establishes formal arrangements for collaboration on major issues including the Budget and Policy Framework, while recognising the distinct and independent roles of both political groups.Under the agreement, the Liberal Democrats will form the administration and take executive responsibility for leading the council, while the Greens will serve as a co-operative opposition through a confidence-and-supply arrangement. The agreement also strengthens the role of scrutiny, establishes a Cross-Party Coordination Working Group and commits both groups to approaching political debate in good faith and in the interests of Newcastle residents.

Newcastle Green Party Councillors condemn Tommy Robinson's "Unite The Kingdom" March.
Newcastle Green Party Councillors condemn Tommy Robinson's "Unite The Kingdom" March.

The rally labelling itself as 'Unite the Kingdom' demonstrated no such unity.

What we saw on Saturday was blatant Islamophobia, misogyny, and violence.

We are a diverse country, made up of millions of brilliant people forged from long lines of migration. Yet, under the guise of 'uniting the kingdom', we witnessed unchallenged Islamophobia. Three non-Muslim women in niqabs shed layers of clothing in an attempt to make a mockery of Muslim women. A cellist performed with bacon draped over his shoulders. One speaker at the rally, Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull, said: "It is absolutely vital, if we want to save this country, we have to remove Islam from every single place of authority.”

The BBC, Sky, Keir Starmer, and Nigel Farage have all failed to acknowledge and actively oppose a huge upsurge in violence against our Muslim population.

This kind of blatant racism and Islamophobia cannot and must not be normalised into our communities. It must be challenged both by the national government and the media. We call upon world leaders, national government, MPs and local councillors to condemn ALL forms of racism including anti-Muslim hate.

We are fighting not against fellow citizens like our Muslim brothers and sisters, but against the elites - against a system that endlessly exploits vulnerable people and communities to feed the wealthy.

Our fight is alongside the oppressed, not against them! This kind of blatant racism and Islamophobia cannot and must not be normalised into our communities.
