Angiosperm seed formation requires the coordinated development of the products of double fertilization—the embryo and the endosperm. The endosperm mediates efficient nutrient transfer from surrounding...

LMU researchers have shown that specific ion channels enable rapid transmission of calcium signals to chloroplasts and strengthen the defense response to recurring stress.

Plants constantly encounter adverse environmental interactions. One organelle is particularly specialized in stress signaling and phytohormone synt...

A research team led by the universities of Münster, Hanover, and Halle has shown that the mitochondria, the “powerhouses” of cells, are already ready for action in dry plant seeds. Their internal stru...

Selective autophagy has emerged as a central interface in plant–virus interactions, acting at once as an antiviral defense, a proviral vulnerability, …

A research team led by Prof. Christos Gatsogiannis at the University of Münster has gained new insights into the workings of a cellular transporter — a protein essential for pathogenic fungi to absorb...

Researchers led by Professor Iris Finkemeier from the Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology discovered a specific chemical mark in the ‘histone code’ of thale cress that is responsible for adap...

The loss of assimilated carbon as CO2 due to respiration and other metabolism is an overlooked target for improving plant productivity. Here, we report the use of a constraint-based modelling approac...

Biologist Angelica Coculla is researching the internal circadian clock of fruit flies. Her latest studies show that the insects are able to reset their internal clock. As the molecular clock resets, t...

Understanding how plant cells coordinate metabolism remains a major challenge, particularly at the level of intracellular organization. This perspective proposes that dynamic organelle positioning ac...

Researchers are discovering how plants form their stomata – and are thereby able to save water. This insight could open up new paths for more drought-resistant plants.

Ohne künstlichen Stickstoffdünger wären die hohen Erträge der industriellen Landwirtschaft undenkbar. Doch der intensive Einsatz schädigt das Klima. Weltweit wird nach klimafreundlichen Alternativen g...

Plant ecophysiology is an experimental discipline dedicated to understanding how plants respond to their physical, chemical, and biological environment. At

Genetically encoded FRET-based fluorescent sensors enable real-time, high-resolution visualization of protease activity and proteolytic signaling in living

Abstract. Flooding is a major abiotic stress that restricts terrestrial plant growth and survival. A plant tissue’s ability to avoid or sustain critical ox

The TPJ Fellowship scheme was first launched in 2020, and we are pleased to announce that we have now opened applications for the 2026 TPJ Fellowship scheme.
