The Biocatalytic Nitro Hydrogenations Team won the 2025 Chemistry Biology Interface Horizon Prize for developing an industrially applicable hydrogenase that enables mild and selective conversion of nitro compounds into amines. Their chemo‑biocatalytic approach combines the efficiency of hydrogenation with the precision of biocatalysis, reducing cost, waste and carbon emissions while avoiding precious metal catalysts.
