This exchange actually is the best example of everything we were discussing. going to use it to teach. Not just the lack of cultural competency but the contempt for the idea of culture as a competency. It’s perfect.

The push to make it so that "websites as a destination for humans is over" is an intentional move to violate the freedom to read of individuals and move access to information into a "pay to get an opaquely intermediated version from a nontransparent source" model.

Last week, we saw two cases where real election issues in UT and TX catalyzed legitimate criticism along with false rumors and misleading political narratives. Our team wrote up a "rumor rundown" for each case. uwcip.substack.com/p/recent-uta...

🧵New from the @cip.uw.edu election rumor research team. ⤵️⤵️⤵️ The conversations around two incidents in Utah and Texas follow well-worn patterns where false rumors and misleading narratives emerge alongside legitimate criticism of real issues involving election administration.
A cumulative graph of the total number of Bluesky posts mentioning keywords related to the Utah mail-dumping incident. The yellow line represents the total number of posts up until that point of time (shown in Eastern Daylight Time), and individual posts from accounts with at least 20,000 followers are rendered. The posts are sized by the number of reposts (not counting quote posts) that they received. Three prominent posts are individually highlighted. The post from altnps (Alt National Park Service) was by far the most engaged post in our data, and is highlighted in red because it catalyzed an increase in conspiratorial interpretations substantially different from the other major reactions to the press conference. URLs and media attachments are noted in angle brackets.Figure 5: A cumulative graph of the total number of Bluesky posts mentioning keywords related to the Texas voter registration errors. These individually-rendered posts are sized by the number of reposts (not counting quote posts) that they received. Four prominent posts are individually highlighted. One of the four highlighted posts comes from an account with under 50,000 followers which does not represent a news outlet, so it was anonymized. i am genuinely bewildered by people who say that the rise of white nationalism in the republican party is a response to the "woke left." like, did the woke left cause pat buchanan's 1992 presidential campaign? is the woke left why steve king had a long career in congress?

The SCOTUS ruling today prevents the USPS from not delivering ballots based on directives from the Trump admin. BUT, the late postmarks issue remains. To make sure your ballot gets counted, return it early and, even better if you can, drop it off in an official ballot dropbox to ensure it’s on time.

The ICE raids and cruelty we are seeing inflicted on children are unacceptable.

The federal government has stripped legal representation from hundreds of thousands of unaccompanied children. Many will soon face an impossible choice: navigate our immigration system alone or risk detention and deportation.

Our city is stepping up. We've invested $16.9 million in immigration legal services for unaccompanied children, with another $32 million in this year's immigration legal services budget, including rapid-response legal advice and representation for people in detention.

If you need immigration legal support, we're here to help. Our free, confidential Immigration Legal Support Hotline is available in your preferred language, regardless of immigration status.

This article contains a really great breakdown of the anti-trans statements and stunts forcing the WNBA to take a stand and make a policy about transgender players. That policy will have broad implications — on the league’s fans, for sure, but also on trans athletes at other levels and leagues.

Yup. Trans hate and misogyny are two sides of the same coin. These are the same assholes who have been bashing women’s sports for being “not athletic enough” and the athletes who are athletic as being “manly” and “ugly”. And now they’re being given massive microphones to mock the WNBA.
