Another Lascaux horse. From last Autumn.
Framed relief sculpture of a horse, based on the axial gallery of the Lascaux. The horse is yellow, with an orange neck/face. It starts on the left/hindquarters as a cave painting and then becomes more three dimensional to the right/front. The background of the relief is textured to look rock-like. There are various painted lines around the horse including two that look like feathers, and 4 parallel lines above. Framed relief sculpture of a horse, based on the axial gallery of the Lascaux. Three panel comic. Panel 1: two friends are playing cards. There is a birdcage hanging behind them, just peaking out of frame. Friend 1 asks, “does your bird talk?” To which friend 2 replies, “Please… don’t.” Panel 2: friend 2 continues, head in hand, “he’s on this alpha male influencer thing right now.” Behind him, the bird - posed and wearing sunglasses and a leather jacket - is leaning forward on a tiny easy chair in his enclosure. “Shadow Walker”
giclée print

It’s nighttime in an atmospheric hidden alcove of an old park and a black cat is slinking across the top of an ornate park bench. Through the surrounding dense foliage lamplight shines upon the cat, casting the cat’s shadow along an ivy covered wall behind the bench.

I actually witnessed this scene on one of my many moonlit nighttime sojourns. The cat didn’t like my staring and quickly ran away. It is rendered in black ballpoint pen.

One of the furry community's originals, Roz Gibson, is in really big trouble. She is in kidney failure, and needs a donor, so please reskeet. www.furaffinity.net/journal/1138...
I’ve thought long and hard about making this post, but really, at this point, I don’t have much to lose. Desperate times, and all that.

TLDR version: I need a kidney transplant, and I’m looking for a donor. Read below for all the gory details.

Since late 2019, right before Covid hit, I’ve been battling a serious illness. I’ve been kind of cagey about what exactly is wrong, for a number of reasons, but here’s the truth—I’m in full kidney failure.

There is no history of this in my family, so when the symptoms began appearing I didn’t recognize them until it was too late. By the time I went to a doctor my kidney function had dropped into the single digits. Most kidney failure is caused by diabetes or high blood pressure—I got some weird kidney disease I can’t even pronounce and never heard of: Oxalate Nephropathy.

By adopting some dietary changes and careful monitoring, I was able to limp along with reduced kidney function for several years. But you don’t appreciate how much your kidneys do to keep you healthy until they stop working. There’s constant fatigue and nausea, and a general feeling of unwellness that never goes away.

But eventually I lost even what minimal function I had left, which left the end of the line for kidney disease: dialysis. As of this point I’ve been on dialysis for about 3 years. Let me tell you—dialysis is its own special kind of hell that you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy. But even that is just a stop-gap measure, and my condition is continuing to get worse. Despite this, I’m trying my best to live as normal a life as possible. I’m extremely lucky I have a job that’s willing to allow me 9 hours a week for dialysis, so I’m still working. On weekends I work on my art and comics, and one or two days a month I do my volunteer work at the bird-banding site. I can even travel to see my family—if I arrange for dialysis at a local clinic ahead of time.

All of that is done while trying to deal with the symptoms of kidney failure. I’ve known 4 people who were on dialysis—none of them worked or really did much of anything, and at this point they’re all dead, which doesn’t really give me a lot of hope for my future.

Which brings us to the point of all this—I desperately need a kidney transplant. That is the only thing that will give me a chance at a relatively normal life. I’ve been approved and on the transplant list for a few years, but the waiting period in California is very long. By the time I get to the top of it, I may be too sick to get one. Right now I’m still in relatively good condition, comparatively. A transplant from a living donor lasts much longer and is better in every way than one you get from a deceased donor.Unfortunately, everyone in my immediate family is too old or has other health problems that preclude donation. So this post is a desperate attempt to find anyone willing to donate. I realize donating a kidney is a lot different than giving ten bucks to a GoFundMe, but as I said at the beginning, at this point I don’t have much to lose by asking.

Here is the living donor site: https://www.uclahealth.org/medical-.....t/living-donor

You can inquire and even arrange to donate completely anonymously if that’s what you want. Hopefully there’s a Jack Salem fan out there who wants to see the stories (and the artist) continue for years to come.

That is all.

Album painting depicting five animal headed demons (jinns) dancing and playing musical instruments among the clouds. The dog headed jinn at the top right holds castanets (kath-tala) in both hands, while the demon below him shakes a tambourine (daf). To his left, the bird headed figure plays a tambourine-like drum (daire), and the kneeling jinn at the far left plays a rabab, a stringed instrument highly valued by the Mughal court. The donkey headed jinn with a fan is the only figure without a musical instrument. Mughal dynasty (1590-1600). India.

A vertical painting titled Tamamo-mae by the Japanese artist Tachibana Koume captures a hauntingly beautiful, legendary subject from East Asian folklore. The composition presents an exquisite study of traditional Japanese aesthetics, masterfully blending classical bijinga (paintings of beautiful women) conventions with the mysterious, supernatural atmosphere of the yōkai mythos.

The right side of the frame features the elegant, slender figure of Tamamo-mae, the infamous nine-tailed fox spirit disguised as a brilliant courtesan. She stands in a graceful, slightly inclined pose, looking down toward a cluster of autumn flora. Her identity is subtly and dramatically revealed as she lifts a stylized white fox mask (kitsune-men) above her face, revealing a glimpse of her dark hair and pale, human features underneath.

Her garments showcase beautiful textile craftsmanship and design. She wears a rich, deep reddish-brown under-kimono completely adorned with an intricate pattern of golden-orange blossoms, tied at the waist with a coordinating patterned sash. Draped over this is a voluminous, ethereal white or pale grey outer robe (uchikake) decorated with faint, translucent floral or butterfly motifs. The long, fluid lines of the drapery cascade elegantly down to her feet, pooling softly on the ground.

The left half of the composition is dominated by a detailed arrangement of traditional autumn grasses and flowers (aki no nanakusa). Tall, delicate plumes of white silver grass (susuki) stretch upward, juxtaposed with dense clusters of bright yellow blossoms and delicate blue bellflowers (kikyō). The entire scene is set against a warm, muted tan background with subtle, smoky color gradations that enhance the dreamlike, legendary quality of the narrative.

Rabbits playing serious sumo. During 1871-73 it was popular for Tokyo residents to keep rabbits, and many rabbit pictures such as these were published. These will be exhibited at the “Ota Memorial Museum collection” exhibition until 7/26. [Text by Ota Memorial Museum of Art”]
The composition focuses on two anthropomorphic rabbits engaged in a serious sumo match (sumō), parodying the intense physical drama and ritual of Japan's national sport.

The locked-horn posture of the two competing leporine wrestlers is intense. Positioned centrally over the woven ring, they lean heavily into one another in a classic sumo grapple (kumi-tai), their long ears pinning backward and their small paws gripping each other's shoulders with immense strength. The rabbit on the left features a pale coat marked with scattered black spots, while the competitor on the right displays a heavily mottled, black-and-grey patched fur pattern with striking, ruby-red eyes that convey an expression of fierce concentration. Both animals are rendered with an incredible sense of muscular tension, their powerful hind legs planted wide apart to resist being thrown from the match.

Underscoring the theatricality of the performance is their immaculate professional sumo attire. Each rabbit wears a heavily fringed ceremonial apron or loincloth (keshō-mawashi) wrapped around its waist. A tiny sliver of a third participant's leg and dark garment peeks into the upper edge of the frame, hinting at a referee (gyōji) or a waiting competitor overlooking the bout.

The match takes place directly upon the textured, straw-woven bales of a traditional sumo ring (dohyō), visible along the lower margin of the print. The background consists of a textured, mottled grey-beige field speckled with fine black flecks, creating an atmospheric studio or arena setting. Three distinct rectangular cartouches populate the negative space: two yellow name plaques frame the wrestlers on the left and right, while a prominent lacquer-red vertical cartouche rests near the lower center, each filled with elegant calligraphy that likely names the rabbit contenders in the style of official tournament rankings (banzuke).

"Examination", oil on canvas, 35x50 cm An odd scene that requires some explaination: alessioscalerandi.com/selected-wor... Part of a series of high fantasy ideas I'm working on for a change.
The painting depicts what looks like a tribunal set up in stone cave and populated by huge, menacing anthropomorphic vultures wearing vestments. An anthropomorphic female red fox is sitting in the middle of the scene, nude except for some jewelry, holding a dagger and glancing confidently at the closest vulture. The vulture appears to be questionig her with a stern attitude, while a huge cobra is curled around the fox's seat and is physically examining her with a magnifying glass he's holding with his tail. In the background another vulture on a high seat is writing in a large book using one of their own quills.

"The gardeners", oil painting on canvas, 35x50 cm Two lionesses I've met who travel around selling plants and stuff for home gardening. They claim to be no "ordinary" winged lions, but lamassuse descending from the ancient guardians of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. I have no reason to doubt them.
Portrait of two winged anthropomorphic lionesses, or lamassuse. The one on the left side has long black hair and is holding a pot of white daisies in her hands; the one on the right ha short white hair and is sitting cross-legged near a plant of basil that is growing in an old tea pot. Both are nude, except that the right hand one wears a necklace sporting the ancient Babylonian sun symbol. They are surrounded by a variety of plants, some in pots, some in recycled containers hanging from the ceiling.
