Worth noting that, if they wanted the home grown nurses they spoke about, the university sector is needed for that, as is a salary on which they can afford to live. The fabulous nurses from abroad deserve the same, and they add so much to our knowledge and skills

Contrast the police statements about the Dover blockade yesterday with the Just Stop Oil protests in 2022
No arrests made during Dover protest, Kent Police says

13:34 5 September
Kent Police has issued a statement following the disruption in Dover earlier today.
It says officers "responded to a spontaneous protest" during Saturday morning, adding "no arrests were made".
"Traffic is flowing normally, and all involved had dispersed by midday," it addsThe Met Police said 35 people had been arrested in response to the disruption.
Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist said the action was "criminality", not protest, and pledged to bring those involved to justice as quickly as possible.
"This was a very significant and co-ordinated effort to cause massive disruption to the entirety of the M25," he added.

The difference between Oswald Mosley's Blackshirts & those we saw in Dover yesterday is that Mosley's thugs showed their faces. Either way, the parallels are deeply uncomfortable. Perhaps these modern-day imitators should be treated with the same seriousness we eventually afforded Mosley. #fascism

Probably a good time to remind #UCU members that the 'UCU Solidarity Movement' is not an official UCU body and is in fact another front for the SWP. No good can come of attending their meetings and certainly not of their appropriation of a tragedy.
