Correct www.wired.com/story/the-bi... You don't need to "believe" this by the way; LLM don't have thoughts or reasoning. The output state is entirely deterministically derived as a straightforward strictly defined mathematical operation from the input state.

Michael Tracey is actively attempting to dox Jane Doe in the Cornell 7 rape case
Michael Tracey : If you happen to know who this Cornell "Jane Doe" is, get in touch and I would be happy to publish her name and identifying information. And yes -- this is 100% permitted under the First Amendment, whatever threats or emotional blackmail people might want to deploy"Report" me for what, exactly? Save your breath, scumbag. Sorry you hate the First Amendment so much. Her identity is obviously newsworthy at this point, and I will take extreme pleasure in reporting it. (Not "doxing" -- that's a total canard)

We need a campaign of divestment of higher education administrators. The wave of 90’s “Universities should be run like a corporation” led to massive increases in the number of “administrators” paid at corporate levels and then increases in tuition to pay for them

Roughly, they think: AGI iff wants to kill all humans. The fact that LLMs don’t seem to want to do that means they’re not AGI and conversely if they can make an LLM that wants to do that then it’s AGI.

the idea they had for how AI "should" work--an idea that was deeply entwined with the broader rationalist/xrisk/EA view of the world--didn't pan out at all, and meanwhile something completely different randomly started being super effective and they had to do a lot of, basically, retconning.

If you put a baby in a high chair and give it a bowl of grapes, you didn’t “intend” for the grapes to hit the floor but it’s not a surprise. “Oh but we had a rim around the tray!”. Yes but then you walked away and didn’t pay attention. And you shouldn’t feed grapes to a baby anyway

The problem is that learning about a new topic often requires 1) letting (maybe temporarily only) go of existing frames and 2) understanding another (learned) community's or (expert) person's way of seeing things.
