PM should listen "to a party that abhors One Nation even more than he does. The radical change the Greens are demanding might be the only thing that can head off One Nation, which grows off the back of people’s economic pain." But unlikely when neolib Albo ignores what is fuelling the #FarRight.

P&I spends plenty of time calling out political failure. This week brought something different: three examples of leadership that deserve attention, from Oslo to London to Australia, P&I Editor Catriona Jackson writes. #auspol #Politics

Three leaders, one reminder: moral courage is not dead in politics – Message from the Editor
When I wrote my very first editor's message 19 months ago, I said that P&I expected leaders to display the moral courage required if we are to tackle existential threats. I have been reminded how true this is every week. You expect courage and intelligence in those who purport to lead, and you make that crystal clear in the letters and articles we publish daily, and increasingly in the social media discussions they prompt.

Mortgage holders are being asked to carry much of the cost of fighting inflation. If the budget also needs tightening, vague promises of spending cuts are no answer. Raising revenue would spread the burden more fairly, Michael Keating writes. #auspol #InterestRates
pearlsandirritations.com
Inflation and interest rates up. Who's to blame?
The RBA has lifted rates to 4.6 per cent, concentrating much of the pain of fighting inflation on younger households with mortgages. A tighter budget could spread the burden more fairly, but serious spending cuts would mean poorer services.

Data centres in the Netherlands used 4.6% of all electricity in 2024, and transmission system operator TenneT expects this to double or triple to 10-15% by 2030! That means that the next 6-11 TWh/year of renewables that will be completed, will go straight to the growth of data centres.
Front page of newspaper Trouw, with headline "Three quarter of datacentres is completely untransparent on energy and water use"
