In a new note, JPMorgan’s commodities team says the Strait of Hormuz exists in a paradox, simultaneously “open” and “closed,” much like the cat in the famous thought experiment. Since March 1, the strait has been seen as effectively closed, with commercial shipping disrupted, insurers withdrawing coverage, tanker traffic collapsing, and Persian Gulf exports falling sharply. Yet oil is quietly finding its way out.

The bank estimates flows are recovering, but still far from normal:

🔸 JPMorgan estimates oil flows through Hormuz are running at 5.1 million barrels per day in June, up from 2.9 mb/d in May, but still only about 25% of pre-war levels.

🔸 Total Persian Gulf exports reached nearly 8.9 mb/d, the highest since the war began, as oil increasingly finds alternative routes out of the Gulf, though that remains well below the 2025 baseline of 18.8 mb/d.

🔸 Roughly 0.8 mb/d is labeled as Iranian crude, but JPMorgan says those cargoes appear to pause in Omani waters and may not represent “true” Hormuz transits, likely turning back under the U.S. Navy blockade.

JPMorgan’s Natasha Kaneva writes that the box (the Strait) is “starting to creak open,” but with flows still at only about a quarter of pre-war levels, it cautions against interpreting the recent rebound as a return to normal.

A desperate plea sent to me by a Minneapolis resident who's been on the front lines since the beginning of the ICE occupation:

Just a quick update from the Twin Cities. (Please forgive the unsolicited message). THINGS ARE NOT BETTER IN MINNEAPOLIS. The media is mostly moving on, Trump is focused on other stuff, BUT NOTHING HAS CHANGED ON THE GROUND. More than 2,000 DHS thugs continue to roam the streets, abducting people 24/7, assaulting legal observers with impunity, and routinely denying 1st, 4th, and 5th amendment rights. Drones and helicopters are overhead every day. Hundreds and hundreds of terrified families have not left their homes since mid-December ... relying on the community to bring them food and help with rent and other necessities. (Those people are NOT violent drug cartel sex offending murderers, as DHS would tell you. Most are legal residents or citizens.) If anything, things have just become more stressful and intractable (think trench warfare as a suitable metaphor): The resistance is better organized and numerous, but DHS has become more clever and better at disguise... and the county sheriff's office is increasingly supporting them . Do not let anyone tell you that Homans (the new person in charge of the occupation) is making anything better. Do not let anyone tell you that 700 ICE agents leaving the city has made much of a difference; the remaining force (again, ~2,000) is still larger than the entire city's police force (which is legally unable to do anything). Please call your congressional reps ... especially if there is any chance the administration might listen to them.

There were several soldiers; I heard them laughing and the camera clicking as it took pictures. This rape was very quick and there was no ejaculation. I cannot describe what I felt; I wished for death every moment. After they raped me, I was left alone in the same room, hands still cuffed to the bed and without clothes for many hours. I could hear the soldiers outside speaking Hebrew and laughing. Later, I was raped again vaginally. I screamed, but they beat me whenever I tried to resist. After more than an hour, I’m not sure about the time, a masked soldier entered, removed my blindfold, lifted his face covering; he had white skin and was tall. He asked if I spoke English; I said no. He said he was Russian and ordered me to masturbate his penis. I refused, and he hit me in the face after raping me.

That day I was raped twice. I was left naked the whole day in the room where I spent three days. On the first day I was raped twice; on the second day I was raped twice; on the third day I remained without clothes while they looked at me through the door slit and filmed me. One soldier said they would post my photos on social media. While I was in the room, my period started; then they told me to put on clothes and transferred me to another room.”
