Over the weekend we played our first game of Galactic Cruise. It was brain-burning with lots of positive player interactions. And the 2 player bot is pretty good. Set it up to play again, hopefully some night this week!

I'm not one for horror, but there are some psychological horror video games I can handle, like Doki Doki. Turns out, Slay the Princess is one of them. Honestly, it's an amazing game & I'm surprised at how much I laughed. Good balance of humor & horror that isn't too grotesque. Highly recommend! 👍

We got a used copy of Hadara & knew the top part of the dial connector had been lost. It still works for gameplay, but it won’t stay attached when put away. We contacted the publisher, but it’s not a current game in their catalog & don’t have any extra parts. Mildly annoying, but understandable.

Over the weekend, we played Fromage 2x. The game was engaging & enjoyable. 4 mini games to balance w/3 workers. Actions take 1-3 turns to complete, so it’s tricky to not tie up your workers. Lots of setup variability! Rotating board is a little clunky, but works. Definitely a keeper! 🧀

On a table is a circular board made up of 4 connect pieces. There are several wedge-shaped wooden pieces and 3 workers sticking out of plastic wedge-shaped cheese pieces. There's part of a player board, a tray of more components and the rulebook for Fromage also on the table nearby.

Sad to say, Rock Hard 1977 isn't for us. Don't recommend for 2 players. Higher player counts should enjoy... if you like a strategic game that is often thrown off by randomness. More ameri-thrash than euro, it contains a few negative loops we didn't like mechanically. But it's very very thematic!

Last night, we learned how to play Rock Hard 1977. We played a few rounds before I got too tired. So far, I like it. Really great theme. The player board amps are really cool! Not sure the 2p bot adds anything.🤔 Hopefully we can finish the game today before we have to leave for turkey day dinner.

There are 4 pictures of the board game Rock Hard 1977 in a 2 by 2 grid. The upper left picture shows a closeup of a section of the board with 2 acrylic standees. This is a great thread! Give it a read! I'd add that it's important to build colorblind & vision accessibility into your prototype from the beginning. Use icons and/or words to double code colors. Never rely on color alone. And high contrast is your friend. Everyone's eyes get worse as we age.

The below is 100% true! I always remember a playtest from years ago. A fancy-looking prototype, we all expected to just be giving minor tweaks for feedback. Nope. The designer spent all their time making it look good & only tested it a few times by themselves. For us, it broke on the second round. 🤦

I've been using @bgstatsapp.bsky.social since 2016. My H-index is 29, according to the app. The most interesting thing about my H-index is that most of the plays are from BGA. This Game Goes to Eleven is the only one with all physical plays. BGA has really opened up my gaming opportunities! 🎉

One of the LEGO sets we recently built was the new Botanical Garden. This was such a fun build! Never got bored putting it together. So many plants that I know nothing about, but everything looks so cool. I love when LEGO uses pieces in interesting and unique ways.

I like raisins. I like plums. But I don't like prunes. 🤨🤔 It's the texture, taste & how long prunes take to chew. But it's a bit boggling to me that I dislike them so. Which sucks because they're now part of my regular diet to keep me, er, regular. 😅 Anyone else experience something similar?

Since I got new board game pins (Wyrmspan), I took pics of my board game pin banner, so y'all can see the whole collection. I have tons more non-board game related pins, but I haven’t fully organized those banners. Still on my to-do list.

Got new shinies (enamel pins) in the mail! I love collecting pins, but don’t get board game ones too often. Most are only available at conventions, which I don’t go to. So it’s nice to see a publisher make them available online. Plus, I couldn’t resist speckled green eggs for Wyrmspan! 😍

This month, Will & I managed to get a few board games to the table. Have you played any of these? We enjoyed most of these, but a few had poor rules. I get that rules are hard to write, but it felt like they weren’t blind playtested or hired an editor. Made for some very frustrating experiences. 🫤
