Today was my first play of Imperium Horizons (which I photographed for Osprey Games back when it was released). A very good reminder to at least skim the keywords for a deck builder before jumping in to avoid lots of rules checks! Seems fun though, looking forward to trying it again soon.

Just passed 300 sessions at the gym since 2023. If I've learned anything in that time, it's to focus on long term goals like overall health and wellbeing versus short term vanity metrics. If you apply this simple logic in to life in general you'll probably live a longer, happier one.

Walking to Lindisfarne (Holy Island) I saw a rare 1,200 year old glass counter from a gaming set. A king piece from a uniquely northern version of "Tafl", a wargame played before the arrival of chess in the 11th century. Another reminder that board games and play are an integral part of history.

The Lindisfarne gaming piece is an incredibly rare, 1,200-year-old artifact. Unearthed in September 2019 during a community dig by DigVentures and Durham University, it offers a fascinating glimpse into the early medieval monastery's culture.

Lindisfarne Castle is a 16th-century castle located on Holy Island, near Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England, much altered by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1901.

The Pilgrim's Way is a historic, 3-mile (4.8 km) walking route across the tidal flats to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne in Northumberland.

Almost certainly the best thing I was ever told about owls was when I met an owl handler at an owl sanctuary and he told me that the wild owls who lived near the sanctuary worried about the tame show owls there and sometimes stopped by to leave them shrews and mice as presents.

An owl handler I met (although not the one in my anecdote) with his beautiful owl.
