I wrote my PhD on depictions of the landscape and environment of the Rhondda, so I too had to look at How Green Was My Valley... it's an awful book and there are so many better depictions of life in the Welsh coalfields

Two early turnouts confirmed from Senedd constituencies: Blaenau Gwent Caerffili Rhymni 47.7% Casnewydd Islwyn 47.8% Considering that these cover areas with some of the lowest turnouts in 2021, this suggests this could be the first Senedd election where turnout passes the 50% barrier. #Senedd26

Voters in Wales failed by inaccurate UK media reports on devolved issues, study finds
Reports on English policies seen in Wales as relating to whole of UK contribute to widespread confusion, researchers say UK media is failing to report properly on devolved issues in Wales, leaving voters ill-informed about May’s Senedd elections, a report has found. A Cardiff University study of more than 3,000 news items found repeated patterns in coverage across different broadcasters and platforms, including not signposting whether an issue was relevant to England or England and Wales only, widespread references to “the government” rather than “the UK government”, and the use of “you” and “your” in contexts that apply only to people living in England. Small note on Welsh coal history since it's in the news. Welsh coal was in decline from around 1920 rather than 1979. In 1921, 271k men worked in Welsh coal. By 1980 there were just 28k employed in (deep) coal in Wales. Thatcherism effectively killed the industry but it had been dying for decades.
