Sure is curious how regularly "fake news"/"disinformation" charges seem to be just about people publishing information the government doesn't like! rsf.org/en/hong-kong...
On 30 September 2026, officers from the National Security Department of the Hong Kong police arrested journalist Tang Ho-wing, founder of Boom News, an independent, social media-based news outlet, according to local media. The 37-year-old journalist, also known by the pseudonym “Boomhead”, is being held under accusation of “incitement by spreading disinformation”, Hong Kong media outlets.

The arrest is reportedly linked to Boom News's coverage of a gathering on 31 August 2026 that marked the seventh anniversary of a police crackdown on protesters in 2019, during the mass demonstrations against an extradition bill with Beijing. Local media report that eight people have been arrested over the commemoration in recent weeks. At the time of writing, police had not publicly confirmed the journalist’s arrest.

hell yeah porter martone www.theplayerstribune.com/porter-marto...
Porter Martone letter to Philly: In my bedroom back home in Peterborough, I’ve got these sticks up on my wall. They have little pegs attached to them. Every time I won a medal at a junior hockey tournament I’d hang them from there, and I’d fall asleep looking at them. Since I was four, all I’ve ever wanted was to keep filling up those pegs. When one of my teams would win something I’d think, Yeah, that’ll look just right on my wall.
I get that same kind of energy from everybody in Philly. I felt it as soon as I got here. You guys are the kind of people who hang stuff up on your walls, right? The game room or the basement or wherever. Trophies everywhere. Newspapers framed everywhere. This is just a city of winners. I love it. People who hate to lose, who feel sick to their stomach when they lose. Those are my people. I felt all of that when I joined the team last spring before the playoffs started.

BREAKING: An Iowa state court dismisses President Donald Trump’s frivolous lawsuit against veteran pollster J. Ann Selzer (represented by @thefireorg.bsky.social) and the Des Moines Register newspaper, a victory for First Amendment rights. Opinion here: www.fire.org/research-lea...
This case sets a President, a member of Congress, and a former state senator against a pollster and a newspaper, and it arises out of an election. A case of that kind invites the reader to look for a political result. The Court’s role is narrower. It is to sit as an impartial arbiter, to apply the law without passion or prejudice, and to rule without regard to the politics of the day. As such, the only question before the Court is whether the Petition states a claim the law recognizes. At its core, the Plaintiffs’ Petition seeks to stretch both Iowa statutory and common law beyond their current bounds, turning speech that enjoys the highest category of First Amendment protection into a liability. After considering the parties’ arguments, the Court must conclude that the protection is too great and the reach is too far. The case must therefore be dismissed.

A man commented “F you and your Flock cameras" on a South Carolina police department's Facebook post. And then the police department — reportedly the Police Chief himself — messaged the man threatening to have "U.S. Marshals" arrest him for “unlawful communications.” www.wrdw.com/2026/09/23/r...
The situation stems from a comment McClellan made on a public post the department made about Flock cameras being cut down across town. McClellan said something along the lines of, “F you and your Flock cameras.”

“I just said something and it really, it upset that police chief obviously and he messaged me roughly a week later. Not happy with what I said,” McClellan said.

In screenshots McClellan provided, the Facebook account labeled Ridge Spring Police Department responded to him, saying it is unlawful to use profanity electronically and stated, “I will be obtaining a warrant” for “unlawful communications.” The message also stated, “I will send the U.S. Marshals to pick you up.”

Cats participated in some animal trials, but not as defen-dants. In the early sixteenth century the rats of the diocese of Autun, in Burgundy, were summoned to appear before a court for having eaten the barley crop, but they failed to appear at the specified time. Their lawyer won the rats an extension by arguing that cats were watching for them, making their journey to the court perilous, and that no one should be expected to appear at the court unless they could do so safely. There is no record whether the rats later turned up to face the charge.

If I understand this correctly, Trump is unaware of the well-established fact that China represses journalists but even if they do, it is “repressive” that the media here has the freedom to publish things the president of the U.S. dislikes. Just unreal.
