Finally coming up for air after life kind of turned upside-down on me. So many changes; so much new. Had some challenges, but I'm settling into a new normal. Found a new choir to join, and their website is Astro (?!?!), so maybe this is the universe's way of saying it's all gonna work out. 😂

It's in the paper, so I guess it's official now! See you soon, Manitoba! It's been a minute... #5pinbowling #Manitoba #Westman
A black and white newspaper article from The Minnedosa Tribune "Passing the torch: Minnedosa Bowl begins its next chapter as owners Alan and Debbie Tarn hang up their bowling shoes." There are two photos of the couples: me and Joe on the left, and the outgoing owners of the bowling centre Debbie and Alan on the right. The article describes the 65 year history of the bowling centre, the legacy of the outgoing owners, and Joe and I as "the successors."

Includes the anecdote from Joe, "I joked on Facebook that someone needed to buy the place so that I wouldn't."

It's strange having client docs work that's *not* open source, so I don't know how public to be. 😅 But, if you happen to know whose docs I'm helping... just published a batch of small but strategic sidebar nav & onboarding changes to usher in the weekend that (I think) make a HUGE difference. 💪

It's Global Big (bird) Day! An excuse to go hang out in one of my favourite spots before the baseball game. (And, no day is complete without some blue jays!)
A selfie of me in sunglasses, a faded, worn blue visor with the Toronto Blue Jays logo, a navy shirt and gray sweater. I'm standing in front of a not quite yet green foresty area on the shore of a marsh. There is a beach with a somewhat low tide and dried seaweed and driftwood on the red sand. The same beach, without me blocking the view. There are tall green trees in the background, but the four ground is mostly red sand and brown grasses.A view more inland of the marsh from slightly above. There are various pools of water of various depths leading in from the shore.A blue jay looking into the camera, head slightly turned in a playful manner. It's sitting on a thin branch of a tree that doesn't yet have leaves, although there is greenery in the background.

I spent the weekends the past month refining a new site at DevRelish.tech. The goal was to create something that wasn't Meetup that helps folks in tech organize IRL social gatherings. It's not a full replacement, but it's free and open source. I wrote more here. remotesynthesis.com/posts/introd...

That thing where your crows wonder why you'll rush outside to photograph the eagles flying overhead, but don't pay specific attention to them. After four "hello"s, I came out with peanuts. (This is an older video, but we have regular "Hello Crows" in the backyard.)

Imagine making AI bird slop when blue jays already exist and thousands of people take pics of them and share them for free out of love for birds and community and watching birds be big ol' dramatic little goobers #birds
A very round puffed-up somewhat forlorn-looking blue jay in a spruce tree. A blue jay stands uo and tilts its head to one side as it strikes a dramatic pose in a spruce treeWashed-out golden hour close-up of a blue jay with ruffled feathers and a crest that, if it were on a human, we'd describe as bedhead.A blue jay contorts itself to preen under one wing. Its head, wingtips, and tail are all pointing in different directions like some kind of IRL bird attempt at cubism.

Why no, I have no idea why LumaFusion keeps crashing on my Android tablet.
Screenshot of the LumaFusion video editing app showing a dozen seperate tracks, each with several small audio clips making a patchwork of clips and empty spaces. Most individual clips show icons indicating per-clip editing (volume, effects) to more finely control the resulting audio output at every moment.

Prince Edward Island - Blue Jay The Blue Jay was adopted as the official bird in a province-wide vote held in 1977. The bird is found in the province through the entire year. 🧵 10/15
A blue and white bird with a black neck band perches on a slender branch. Its back and wings are bright blue with patterned markings, while the underside is pale. The tail is long with alternating blue and dark bands. The bird’s head is slightly turned, showing a short crest and a pointed beak against a softly blurred background.

First robin sighting of the year in the backyard! (We do have year-round robins, but they tend to be sneakier in winter and are more in the forest than backyards.) I, also, have been sneakier this winter and exploring some big life changes... so, taking this as a sign of avian solidarity! 🐦‍⬛

I haven't made the time yet to write about contributing *a cappella* to open source, but at least I now have another example to use when advocating for the opportunities for and importance of contributions beyond code! (Should open source projects have *jingles*??)
A large tablet running a video editing app, showing 5 individual tracks of me singing a different vocal line being stitched together to create one video with 5 headshots. Also on the table in front is an index card with a crudely handwritten musical arrangement of the short song.
