Since 1994, immigrants have paid more in taxes than they receive in benefits every year. Do not believe the lies you hear about immigrants. They are good for society and the economy.

Orwell never said this. The first usage & attribution was by Richard Grenier (prankster & far-right madman) in the Washington Times, 1993. The closest approximation is from Notes on Nationalism - 'Those who ‘abjure’ violence can only do so because others are committing violence on their behalf.'

It’s insane but it’s pretty clearly the Administration’s hatred of brown people that overrides all electoral logic here: his repeated baiting of Somalis, Central Americans, Southeast Asians in MN—his race war is more important to him and his advisers than anything else.

Clearly, the US violation of Venezuelan sovereignty is about oil. But is it not also about Netanyahu? Miller et. al. are so incensed at the idea of an international court (or Mamdani’s NYC) arresting their crony head of state, they do so preemptively with Maduro? (And even put him on trial—in NYC!)

At SCI-arc in the '00s,I heard a student speak disparagingly of Frank Gehry's work. "We're 20 years ahead of what he's doing." TLDR: the Oedipal impulse was at work (see J. Halberstam's critique). FWIW, I'm grateful to Gehry for helping me imagine the built world as dancing, leaning, at play. RIP.

ON TOP of the ethical reasons to not use AI, it's also 1) bad at what it does 2) literally makes you stupider 3) has HUGE environmental costs: every search is equivalent to pouring out an entire bottle of water. It's not worth it to generate a cutesy emoji or have it write an error-riddled draft.

I made this list of Nonviolent Political Actions for Writers for a course I taught during TFG 1.0 on Writers & Resistance. Please share. You do not need to be a writer to participate. "You are here on this earth at this time. Don't act like you're not a part of what's going on."
Nonviolent Political Actions for Writers

1) Writing-speeches, letters, statements, flyers, leaflets, group letters, petitions...plus your poems, stories, plays, and commitment to making art as a person who desires a better world.

2) Banners bumperstickers, t-shirts, protest signs, sky-writing, sidewalk chalk, broadcasts, social media posts, articles, editorials, displays of language in public places.

3) Symbolic Acts-pickets, marches, prayer circles, vigils, mock awards, delivering symbolic objects (pies, dildos, dead flowers, glasses of water delivered by citizens of Flint, MI, to their local politicians, etc), displays of flags or other symbolic objects (in the Polish Solidarity movement, members wore electronic "resistors" from radios), public performances, satire, costumes (pussy hats at the Women's March; nuns' habits worn by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, etc.), disrobings, die-ins, mock funerals, effigies, puppets.

4) Public disapproval-whistles, bullhorns, assemblies, sit-ins, stand-ins, ride-ins, solidarity with those being attacked (Angel Action against the Westboro Baptist Church, US Veterans acting as "Human Shields" to protect the Standing Rock protesters), walk-outs, silence, withholding approval, turning one's back, boycott, sanctuary, total personal non-cooperation, conscientious objector status.

5) Witness-At any level of action, remember that action speaks louder with words. You not only have to be willing to participate, you must be willing to testify. You are here on this earth at this time. Don't act like you're not a part of what's going on.
