A new post concerning a strange symbol on a coin-type of Gisulf II. After an initial, convoluted attempt to explain it, I found the answer in older historiography (which should never be dismissed out of hand, a fact well illustrated here). #medievalsky mundusbarbarorum.wordpress.com/2026/09/28/t...

Colorful beads were very popular in the early #medieval period, particularly during the 6th and 7th century. This necklace was found in the grave of a woman in Donaueschingen-Neudingen. It consists of more than 50 beads made of amber and glass. Dating ca 525-550 AD. 📷 me
The beads exhibit a variety of shapes and colors, including orange-red amber beads. They are predominantly present at the top sections of the circle. There are also yellow, turquoise, blue, green, and multicoloured beads
The arrangement of beads appears uniform, strung in a continuous, circular pattern. The metal wire that holds the beads is visible. The background is a plain, dark gray/black colour, drawing attention to the necklace's design and colours.
