1. #MedievalSky, grab a lifejacket and a seasickness bag, we’re casting off on a thread about the Norman invasion fleet in 1066! 960 years ago, the Normans landed at Pevensey and established a base at the Roman shore fort which was already succumbing to erosion from the sea on its south side. 1/20

It analyses eight fascinating letters sent by Irish kings to the kings of England in the 13thC, while also providing a full transcription and translation of them in the appendix. Heartbroken to hear that the great Italian (micro)historian Carlo Ginzburg died a few days ago in Bologna. He was one of the most masterful storytellers and historians I have ever read. May we all reread his magnum opus this week and consider that there is no history too small to be remembered. 🧀 🪱
