We loved this so much we just had to put English subtitles on it, apologies to the French speakers for our translation. But this is what it would look like here in the UK if Farage or Lowe or another of their ilk got their own way.

The sum comes after a summer dominated by scrutiny of Nigel Farage's party, including an ongoing criminal investigation into allegations it breached rules on political donations.

On Andy Burnham's sudden bout of shyness. thecritic.co.uk/sanc...
The close of his statement was an appeal to our better natures. If we were going to ask Israelis and Palestinians to live side-by-side, he said, Britain also had to be a place where “people of all faiths and none have a right to live without prejudice or fear.” Listening to him was Andy Burnham, who has been strangely absent from our public debate for the last few days. In August, we couldn’t move for social media clips from the prime minister, standing on a ladder to discuss his first job, or sitting in a pub to rate bar snacks. But faced with masked thugs trying to shut down British ports over the weekend, Burnham seems to have lost the password for his phone. For a decade now, Britain has had a series of leaders apparently paralysed by the fear that if they say that racism is bad, they’ll be voted out. It would be nice to get one who had a slightly higher opinion of us.

80 year-olds with pro-Palestine signs: arrested as terrorists. Greens planning to block a road, to highlight an existential crisis: sent down for years. Masked far-right thugs blocking roads and ports, using intimidation, obstruction & threatening behaviour: no arrests. The real two-tier policing.

Just been reminded of this. Newer friends and followers may not know of that type 11 years ago when I was writing for the Guardian and finally snapped at their ludicrous image archive setup and it got published on the actual site. #cake #breakdown
A cake
I Do you know how long l've spent in the Guardian's image archives to find a picture of a bog
standard cake? Bloody ages! Thousands of images and not one thing that you'd recognise as a
normal cake. This weird ice cream thing is the best I could do. Everything else has a sodding fried
egg or a bunch of parsley obscuring it, or has been arranged to resemble a Picasso painting or a
sculpture reflecting the futility of existence. When did this place becore riddled with hipsters?

We were up at 5am to do am airport run and for most of the last month we’ve either had people staying or someone arriving first thing to do something in the house or garden. Tomorrow is the first day for ages I’ll be able to get a lie-in. What’s the betting I’ll be awake early? 😬

I walked past and said it looked paler than the wall, but was told it would go darker, of course it was the right colour. A little while later, I hear a volley of swearing…😇

We are 200km from the wildfires in Gironde but the air here is full of smoke, such a strong smell it woke us. Announcements from the fire service on social media not to call them, it’s because the wind has changed direction. Must be unbearable nearer in, on top of the fear and destruction 😢

Screen grab of an article from the BBC News website saying his wife went on Blind Date in the early days of their relationship - with his blessing - and went on a date to Gibraltar with a guy named Will. Years later the couple ran into Will in parliament as he had just become the Conservative Director of Communications
