If we try to have the dog play basketball, surely we will be stopped by the rules which prohibit such a thing!

One would be good and the other would be bad because one cause is good and the other is bad. We are not in the realm of procedural justice concerns anymore, liberalism is not obligated to be neutral on the question of its own existence.

My question about the potential post-election shenanigans has always been, wouldn’t that collapse the bond market? Like, it totally think he’s evil and stupid enough to try, but presumably the markets wouldn’t love “we’re abolishing congress“

Love 2 hear a guy at the library drunkenly tell his friend that he just early voted and then segue into a rant about how giants are real but the government is covering them up. The median voter (derogatory!)

The durability isn’t great, but you can hold down square and basically take any corner. I found it way easier than doing the drift on the base landspeeder

The meta platforms are great, because basically every single post has at least one comment from an older man earnestly being like “hello, yes. Inspirational stuff. I would like to marry you, the person posting this. Also how do I get to my email?”

Horrific geopolitical implications aside, a public and messy Trump/Musk feud is just an absolute chef’s kiss of a story for the weeks before the midterms

It’s probably impossible, but I think there’s a question of if internal message discipline would help. Like, it’s probably impossible to defend for example congestion pricing to suburban whiners if you also have urban leftists and/or progressives handwringing about if congestion pricing is unfair

IMO, we have to be willing to essentially say “you’re doing fine, shut up.” And there’s a real reluctance, given economic worldviews/social dynamics to do that. It’s why we’re still arguing about vibecessions years later

Alex @saintsopossums.bsky.social · 15/10/2026
Right, but Shrewsbury has a lower property tax rate than Worcester, and they have cheaper utilities thanks to their municipal service. I don’t know what we would lose by exploring municipal power and/or telecommunications

Yes. The entire argument has been about the fact that morally, it is unethical that the United States gets to do crimes to other countries with no recourse, when we would never accept other countries doing the same to us. Obviously the US CAN physically do crimes. That’s not a point of contention
250 5
Alex @saintsopossums.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
But the US invaded Afghanistan under the premise that a country harboring a civilian who committed murder was unconscionable. Using that argument, North Korea would be well within their rights to demand the “civilians“ back to face trial, or they would declare war on the United States

Alex @saintsopossums.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
We should probably look into if we have US civilians going around murdering fishermen then. Seems bad! Again, do you not understand that some people have a distinction between legality and morality?

I understand the structure, yes. The structure is morally bad. I dunno man, if some Russian commando broke into my house and shot me because they were doing a covert action, I would not personally approve of that.

Alex @saintsopossums.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
Well, presumably he’s not arguing that whoever gave the order to do the operation where special forces killed civilians should go to jail. I am arguing that. That’s kind of the fundamental difference
120 2
Alex @saintsopossums.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
Yes. Do you think if North Korea did covert action on the coast of California and shot some fisherman that the US would just go “oh, no harm no foul guys, we understand it was covert action. All good!”

Alex @saintsopossums.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
Seriously. Yes, ”these are the current rules of engagement“ is just an is/ought distinction. It’s morally bad if the rules of engagement are currently ”our guys can murk whatever civilians they want if they fucked up the whole ‘covert’ thing.”

I know this won’t be a popular opinion on here, but it’s time we all went back to Renner App. Yes it got bad on there after Jeremy was crushed to death by that snowplow, but now you’ll see far more celebrations of Jeremy’s life than discussions of the specific mechanics of his brutal pulverisation
