There's a pregnant pause as they both stare at her. And then start laughing. Full on, really laughing. And she finds herself laughing too. This whole situation is so funny it's absurd. Of course they'd be laughing!

Summary: Gale only knew the Dekarios family’s history through old journals and family lore. But as a kid, his favorite journals were those written by his great-grandfather Gaius, a powerful war mage and member of the mysterious Arcane Brotherhood. Gale would stay up late, lost in his great-grandfather’s poetic words about the Weave, his epic battles, and adventures. But his favorite part of the journals were stories about the love of Gaius’s life, a beautiful sun elf named Ellandra. When he discovered that his former traveling companion was the same elf from his great-grandfather’s journal, he told her wanted to know everything.

Over the course of an evening, Gale and Ellandra read through Gaius’s old journals, with Ellandra providing additional context. She tells Gale about her life with Gaius through the destruction of the Host Tower of the Arcane in Luskan and the devastating Spellplague. Their family’s triumphs and struggles, and notably, the strong bond Ellandra shared with her step-son, Griffin, Gale’s maternal grandfather.

For something more recent, a TLOU vignette I wrote for my "year of small joys" series (which can be found here: archiveofourown.org/works/441895... mind your step there's NSFW in other works though not this one)

He looked at it properly now. Just the right mix of sun and clouds and haze to paint everything golden, hide some of the ugly that had become of the city since it had been bombed and abandoned so many years ago. Light shone from every corner, reflected off the buildings and what windows were left intact. Somewhere it caught on somebody's fancy glass, left abandoned for who knows how long, somehow still upright on a table and exposed by a busted corner of the building it was in, and the light danced in a spectrum of colors on a wall across the street from it. The worst of the damage, though, was cast in shine and shadow and for a moment, just a moment, he could imagine the empty streets were just because nobody was up at this hour. That the open walls were just construction. They stood in silence until the sun rose just enough to break the spell, unspoken agreement turning them from the window to go back down and pack up their camp.

Spoiler for a chapter I've not publicly shared yet and it's a bit more than just one sentence but I think this bit of dialogue is my favorite ever so far.

"You were not there. You did not see what they did to… to my son… to my daughter… You are elven! How can you not understand what they are?"

Good sentences are my favorite thing to talk about! I'm always trying to include it as much as I can in fanfiction conversations, or any conversation about reading and writing. I think it's especially important we talk even more about how we create our sentences as AI tries copying our craft.
