I continue to assert that the US national anthem sets the tone for us to be combative. If the anthem was America The Beautiful or This Land Is Your Land, perhaps it would help bolster those ideals.

Well, we're pulled over at a rest area off I80 in Nebraska. Busted bearing and hub in the rear trailer axle, hoping the roadside assistance isn't a scam. The weather is nice, at least. Met a fellow burner (Camp Beaverton!) who stopped to check on us. Just another eventful trip to the desert.

I know that might sound glib and simplistic, but it really is that straightforward. MARTA is the largest transit agency in the U.S. to receive no operations funding from its state. No sustainable expansions in service will happen without those funds. Period.

Taylor Farms produces much of the lettuce sold in America’s supermarkets and fast food restaurants. Many consumers would like to know which ones.

There are two possibilities here. Taylor Farms paid a shit ton of money to get the FDA to say this. Or DOGE decimated the FDA so significantly that they managed to fuck up a basic sample test. Neither one is great!

Are there dead voters on voter rolls? Absolutely. About 8,500 people die every day in the United States. 70 percent are registered voters. If it takes a week to take someone off the voter rolls, roughly 42,000 dead people are still registered to vote. There is no evidence of mass voter fraud here.

The Luddites loved technology. They owned looms at home and would ‘mod’ them to count threads. Their battle was against worker exploitation. The degradation of their rights, safety and wages. They were against a handful of rich businessmen owning the means of production. Sound familiar?

Don’t take the bait. Whether ICE planted drugs or there were drugs DOES NOT MATTER. It’s irrelevant to the murder. Feds want us to debate drugs in a story that’s about murder. Stay focused on the murder. It’s not about the victim’s virtue or lack thereof. It’s about ICE murdering people.

Today is the 250th anniversary of Boston’s mass inoculation against smallpox on July 3, 1776. The city was effectively closed to commerce from July through September 1776. The mass immunization effort was cheered as evidence of true independence. Here's how I described it in my book:
While John Adams and fifty-five men in Philadelphia debated a resolution on independence and the final wording of the Declaration of Independence, the people of Boston declared their own independence from smallpox. The measures taken in both cities provided hope that America would not only be a republic free of a king but also a country free from disease. On July 3, 1776, a day after independence was declared in Philadelphia, the Massachusetts General Court voted to allow inoculation. Despite the dangers of infection, the people of Boston and the surrounding areas cheered the news. Ezekiel Price, a court official and insurance broker, declared “Liberty is given for to inoculate for the small-pox; many begin upon it this afternoon.” Hannah Winthrop described the scene: “Boston has given up its Fears of an invasion & is busily employd in Communicating the Infection. Straw Beds & Cribs are daily Carted into the Town.” She wrote that “Men Women & children eagerly crowding to inoculate is I think as modish as running away from the Troops of a barbarous George was the last year.” Dr. James Warren wrote to John Adams that the “rage for inoculation” had “whirled me into its vortex.…” Warren and his wife Mercy Otis joined Abigail Adams and her four children who had been invited to be inoculated at Abigail’s uncle’s house in Boston along with Abigail’s sisters Elizabeth Cranch and Mary Shaw and their families. Even though Boston was teeming with the sick, the prospect that the city could conquer smallpox made it "a scene delightful indeed." Cotton Tufts was satisfied that he could now "take my leave of Earth, satisfied that the Day of American Redemption was at Hand."

I’ve driven across this country 3 times. The idea we don’t have room for immigrants here is absurd horse shit. The reason this country has and can be so great is because of immigration. Most other countries shut themselves off and regurgitate insular thoughts and ideas. Our diversity is our power.

The outcome is thus: 5–4 that the Constitution protects birthright citizenship for the children of all immigrants. 6–3 that Trump's order is unlawful (because Kavanaugh says it violates a statute, NOT the 14th Amendment.) www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...

Donald Trump came one vote away from getting the Supreme Court to say that the 14th Amendment does not guarantee birthright citizenship for the children of undocumented and temporary immigrants, a view held only by fringe far-right nativists until VERY recently. This is shocking. I am stunned.

It's such a *clear* equal protection violation to me, if for no other reason that trans *men* are not subjected to the same restrictions, only trans women. But, since the court already decided that the constitution doesn't apply to trans women, I can't be surprised.
